You think if you are married, you will have someone taking care of you when you are old and senile? Think again.

Many old folks have been abandoned by their children for one reason or another. Mainly because the children cannot afford to take care of them, or because the old folks neglected to take care of their children when they were young. There are also cases where the people outlived their children and spouses.

On the other hand, singles who are wealthy can always engage professional help. High end nursing homes where they can live out their last days in comfort and dignity

If you have a child, you have a 50% probability of being taken care of when old. If you have 2 kids, your probability increases. If you have no kids, you have zero probability.

Don't think living in a nursing home is that great. You hear of cases where the old folks are abused and these poor folks who are senile suffer in silence.

Good luck to you if you think your wealth will suffice for you in your old age. You will lonely, as noone really cares for you. If you have kids, there is a chance, no matter how small the chance is, that your kids will take care of you. I'm sure if you have cared for your kids and not neglected them when they are young (with the excuse of work, whereas you actually spend time clubbing and womanising), they will take care of you when you are old and senile.

When you are wealthy, you have options. You can retire in a high end private nursing home and not in those where the care givers throw you around.

When you are poor, and your children are also struggling to feed themselves you know where you will still end up. Those old folks home where your children dont visit and dont even pay for your stay. I am sure you have also read of successful people who neglected their aged parents.

What would be more painful? To be abused by a stranger or by your own children? You do know about the Maintenance of Parents Act or dont you? You know why there is such a bill? Dont kid yourself. Dont depend on anybody.

That is definitely not true. I have spent a lot of time clubbing when I was younger and now that I'm in my golden years, my kids are still very filial and take care of me well.

Plus I have many fond memories of the nights of fun , passion and romance to hold dear for the rest of my life.

Live your life the way you want it, don't let moralising pricks spoil your fun. Some people think living by some code or religion or what others think is "best" makes life better. However, at the end of your time when you look at the man in the mirror only you, and no one else, can say "Yes I've truly lived."

You're doing great!! May I ask what type of job you have that allows you to travel so much and knock off on time?

Retired, 45, was a corporate executive high flyer. Current passive income from multi million investment portfolio, $125k pa. Now spends a lot of time reading, working out in the condo gym, swimming, scuba diving and doing charity work. Hope to write a book one day. Owns a penthouse condo and a luxury car, both paid up. Wife, 40, $100k pa. Annual family expenditure, $90k pa. On top of the investment portfolio, we also have millions in cash and CPF savings.

Your theory is flawed, if someone does not want kids how do you expect them to fully support them if they didn't want them in the first place.

Also I've seen daughters taking care of their fathers who were known to be womanizers and wife beaters. Is that unjust yes but there is no black and white for this kind of thing.

I don't understand your logic on how a rich man will be ill treated at a nursing home, hello when white foreigners retire in places like Thailand they're kids are not there to care for them. In fact in western countries having children take care of their elderly is almost non existent. And a man with money has very little limits in options.

You're the kind of person who judges everything on face value, plus you're life experience sounds really narrow and to be honest kinda boring. Stop judging others and go enjoy your life before its too late.

If you compiled the number of times you posted on this thread you would have a book, albeit repetitious but a book nevertheless.
