Information about Local General Contract
I'm considering returning back to service as a full time teaching staff.
Abit bumped upon hearing about the Local General Contract and how difficult they made it for returning officers. For those who walked this path before, could you share:
- were you eligible for 13 month/performance bonuses/corporate benefits while on the local general contract?
- are there chances where your posted school (upon contract) backed up your performance and expedited you going back to perm staff in less than 2 years?
I'm considering whether it is really worth returning back or just staying on as a FAJT.. Would greatly appreciate any input! Thank you.

Any advice from those who successfully applied for returning teacher position in MOE? Do you know what kind of criteria is set in order for your application to be approved? I left the service due to personal reasons and not performance about 5 yrs ago, and now that everything is good, I want to go back to teaching

Not someone who went through this path, but had worked alongside someone who had - I think it's easier to come back in if the school indicates that they want you, and it's easier to do that if you go back as an FAJT for a while first. Can share your intent with whoever brings you in. The person I know worked as an FAJT in my school for a while, decided to reapply, and we were asked for input from HR. Eventually posted back to us as perm staff.

Hi, i have the same question as above. As anyone re-applied back to teaching under the trained tr application? and would any one mind sharing on the process? As i noticed the applications are now opened for this window frame for trained tr and those who had left the service previously. And would the trs be entitled to the 13th month and all the bonuses?
Thanks much

Me. I re-applied after leaving service for a couple of years. The process is pretty much standard. Apply and if shortlisted, you’d have to attend an interview where a panel of interviewes will watch you teach a segment of a lesson plan(need to submit before interview) followed by interview itself. If all goes well and you are selected, you will be placed under Local General Contract as someone had mentioned before.
Basically, you will get all the benefits(PB, 13th mth etc) EXCEPT for the connect plan. I didn’t know this so was quite bummed when I found this out after reading the contract lol.
Don’t feel discouraged by others saying it is difficult to rejoin the service or it will take a long time to be put back to permanent estab. I rejoined in Jan 2024 and was emplaced to permanent establishment in April 2024.
Good luck if you plan on rejoining the service!
