Every family is different.

There are families where there are many people contributing to household income

There are also family where there is only 1 person contributing to household income

6200 is slightly below 5k after cpf.

If you are the sole breadwinner with many mouths to feed, it is really not a lot.

And let's not forget with falling birthrates, many people are only childs, or have very few siblings to split the burden of supporting their ageing parents.

Salary of 6200 still qualify for financial assistance plan

So let's not generalise

You realise that there are many other government jobs which provide the same or better total compensation, and also the same level of job stability.

Do you?

There is good planning and there is bad planning.
Problem is those who plan do not implement, so many airy-fairy ideas need to be carried out by ppl on the grd.

ppl who post their views here should read up on history of Lehman; risks and losses are socialised and profits are privatised. You have GEOs fighting for peanuts while SEO and superscale create EPMS so GEO fight for peanuts.

If you're the sole breadwinner with many mouths to feed, you should have used contraception. Merdeka and Pioneer generation have a lot of support measures in place, so it is only in truly exceptional cases will the burden be extraordinary.

Let's hope that your spouse lives a long and healthy life, and does not lose their jobs for whatever reason, and that your marriage is strong, and all your children are perfectly healthy and independent. Let's hope all your siblings stay alive and can contribute financially and physically for the upkeep of your parents

Many people are forced to become sole breadwinners for various reasons.
And sometimes the circumstances are beyond your control.

Just met my teacher friend and learned that his salary is lower than mine (generic MX scheme). We graduated together with FCH a few years ago.

Quite surprised...I thought teacher is specialist scheme

One of the main grouses here is the lack of faster promotion opportunities that the older generation used to enjoy. This can result in dissatisfaction of younger teachers. Will it help to manage out older teachers who are doing minimum but already hitting their salary ceiling? Manage out meaning puting them on PIP for example.
This will not only motivate the younger workforce to know there's room for their progression but also, the GEO 5/5A won't be able to rest on their laurels.

Win win, you get a more motivated younger workforce and the older workforce get more talented.
