I am previously a R&D manager with >14years experience in electrical and software development.

Recently took a >55% paycut to join a slacker job for personal reasons. Now I am ready for normal full time work, how much can I ask for a software engineering role?

If they’re keen, usually the process will be fast. Silence after 2-3 weeks doesn’t sound good. Even if the HR resigned, the department should be calling to chase. If they don’t, the hiring process may be a good indicator of what you can expect after joining. I mean this generally and not specific to LTA.

Anyway, generally I find public service takes quite long to get back if they’re not interested. A rejection email is not guaranteed unless you ask for it. Regardless of public or private, generally a slow response can be taken to mean lack of interest or you are not the top choice. No serious recruiter will allow a candidate they are really interested in to wait. So you should make your own backup plans accordingly.

The only thing that annoys me is that the HR did mentioned that they will get back to me on this and then disappear without even telling me.

But yeah I had sort of moved on from this already.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention but I found the 2 LTA email via OOO email previously when the HR was still around. If not, I don't even know who to contact.

No offence. Is this under scholarship bond? If not, with FCH why not go out into private sector make more $ and gather real life experience while young first? After that you can still go back public/civil service
