Usually what is the typical waiting time for HR to get back to you during the process of referral check? Does HR even reply back to you if you are not selected?

Takes around 2-3 weeks for referee checks. If you want to know results or status, call the HR. It’s totallly normal and once ure hired, they are going be your colleagues anyway.

If you join late in the year (e.g. Nov) then when would you get EE? Would you need 2 ranking cycles to get it or is it possible after 1?

Usually it’s 2 ranking cycle if you join as engineer/project engineer. So if you join Nov 2023, you can only become EE/EPE in 2025 March. It’s stupid but this is LTA

I met a very strange situation currently. I was waiting for my referral check to be completed within 2-3 weeks. After 3 weeks, I then tried to call/email the HR who was replying back to me and forth. It seems like that the number was not available and even the email was gone? I had presume that the HR had left the company probably.

Since then I had tried to email other HR personnel (2 of them so far) regarding this but there was no reply at all. I am not too sure how the process is like but I thought at least the HR will have the decency to reply back whether my application passed or failed.

Do you guys think any point waiting or I should just move on?

Just move on bro, in fact should nvr stop moving on until u receive the offer letter. Always keep looking for opportunity

Were the two others on the same email thread or you found them from govt directory?

Also, was your referee check pursuant to verbal offer?

If they’re keen, usually the process will be fast. Silence after 2-3 weeks doesn’t sound good. Even if the HR resigned, the department should be calling to chase. If they don’t, the hiring process may be a good indicator of what you can expect after joining. I mean this generally and not specific to LTA.

Anyway, generally I find public service takes quite long to get back if they’re not interested. A rejection email is not guaranteed unless you ask for it. Regardless of public or private, generally a slow response can be taken to mean lack of interest or you are not the top choice. No serious recruiter will allow a candidate they are really interested in to wait. So you should make your own backup plans accordingly.
