Default Bumping this please!

Dear all,

I'm very new to this field! Just out of curiousity, what is the "pegging" between the EO grades, KP and HQ positions? Is this correct?

SEO3 = VP = DD in HQ
SEO2 = HOD = AD in HQ
SEO1 = Junior HOD = Lead Manager in HQ
GEO5 = Normal teacher / SH = Manager in HQ

Thank you!

For EO grade/school ranks, try searching for the salary scales on this thread. It's a bit difficult to say things like 'SEO3 = VP' because, while often true, a VP can technically be promoted to superscale. Similarly, a senior HOD can be promoted to SEO3.

For pegging with HQ roles, it's roughly there - except EOs seldom take on 'manager' roles in HQ. In the professional wing at least, it's all flattened to Officers (for GEO) and Senior Officers (for SEO), which are all equivalent to SEO1 'estab'.

ya indeed. deal with kids only ma. teach and just ensure decent results?

compared to drs for eg.. have to treat patients with complex health issues, deal with life and death situations (deal with actual death sometimes), difficult family members, at the same time keep up with research/ publications and education of junior drs...

really different calibre la. heaven vs earth in terms of value to society too

Thanks very much

I have an older cousin, not in the education service, but is a DD in MOE HQ. I guess he's VP-equivalent then

Default Twa+

Thank you very much to the poster who shared on their TWA+ experience. It's a honest and clear opinion that provides good info. A couple follow up questions (for OP or anyone else who has done TWA+):

The place I did my TWA at had no direct link to education (people I met there kept gawking at me like I was an alien when I introduced myself as a teacher). But I had the chance to glimpse the work and was challenged (in a kind manner) to contribute during meetings even though I was a total newbie. As a result, I learnt a lot about that sector in a way I could never have otherwise.
In the TWA+, were you tasked to contribute deliverables or work on any team projects? Or was it really an exposure exercise? I understand that since our tenure may only be a few weeks, it's hard for team leads in partner orgs to meaningfully task and deploy us.

So timing is a factor you may consider.. and there might be practical constraints depending on yr school. But I know of ppl who went for TWA in the middle of Term 1 and Term 2 so it's definitely not impossible.
Hope this helps
For the application outside TWA+ window, is there a separate process from the info provided via CES? In the case described above, I assume also that you went in the post-exam period and prior to PVT - does your dept still task you with marking of EOY papers? And, did you have to forecast your planned TWA+ period far in advance since most of us are down for national exam duties in post-EOY period too? Thanks!

For example, another factor they might consider would be distribution of non-IP KP - if the YHs and AYHs belong to other departments, for instance, it might not be uncommon for additional IP SHs to be raised to help even it out among the school's departments.
Does this mean that, if a department already has many different (IP and non IP) KPs in there e.g. half of the department is made up of KPs, it is less likely for the younger teachers in that department to obtain a KP position?

I would guess yes, that would be the case - but I've never been an SL, so this is just a guess on my part.

Logically though, if say the HOD/HUM has no Geog expertise, but the YH is able to help with that… there will be less need to raise a SH/Geog?

Default Teacher easy job

Education content rarely updated. Teachers just memorize and teach. Thats jt.

Mark some papers then get aim for promotion. Easy .

Hello, OP here.

I think the organisation was unsure of what kind of deliverable to assign me. As I mentioned, I joined durin a lull period so there wasn't an ongoing project I could work on. So I mostly helped out with various smaller tasks and 'nice to have' tasks which the permstaff don't usually have the time to do. If you apply for an advertised TWA within their window, I'm sure there will be some kind of project you will be asked to work on.

There are only two types of application procedure: advertised TWA and self-initiated TWA. You can refer to the flowchart provided by AST in their TWA mailer.

I completed all my national and school exam duties before going. Basically my TWA fell during Term 4 Weeks 6 to 9 (you can infer which levels I teach). So I missed the scriptchecking week and some post exam activities. That's all I missed. Everything else I did as per normal. You should discuss with your RO as early as possible to avoid a situation where deployment is all firmed up already amd there's no wiggle room. I discussed my TWA with my P and RO at the start of the year.

Default why are teachers not prioritised in Policy Wing?

I find it extremely insulting that hardworking and experienced teachers need to report to young non-teachers in the policy wings.

Shouldn't teachers, with our wealth of ground experience, be in charge of the policy wings? Senior Teachers should be the DDs at policy wings, and the non-teachers should just remain as officers unless they convert to EOs and gain ground experience.

Has anyone worked at the policy wings before? Are the young non-teachers occupying the DD and AD positions any good?
