Most will get promoted one. Just focus on doing your part well, no need to please them.

No need afraid of your manager in 30s

Why leh?

Because they need to rely on you to do vouching and fieldwork
Unfortunately for you, the same trick doesn’t work twice and that ship has sailed.

The cohorts from 2020 to 2022 already tried to flex their muscle and make managers realise they need the staff else they lose potential proposals due to lack of manpower.

Management relented and revised pay 2 years in a row, leading to some new juniors thinking it’s a normal thing lol.

After that they have been expanding outsourcing and now every engagement is asked to take on an offshore member. And the % of offshore usage is set to expand over time.

So you are now dispensable.

Additionally, the seniors from 2021 are now managers in 2024.

So the trick you’re thinking of using on your managers is basically the same trick your managers used on their managers just 3 years ago.

You gotta be super brave, naive, or both to try use their spells against them.

the issue is only when u get one siaolang EM (and if you're 200% unlucky, that EM is also your PM), and that siaolang pushes a PIP onto you because you didn't OT hard enough. if you aren't this unlucky then it's fine, you can coast.

The M1 to M3 in 2024 all quite ok. Anyone born 1993 and later quite easygoing just want to get the job done and go home

It’s the 198X Senior Managers you gotta watch out for.

Lol

How long more?

How many more years you need to outsource entire audit engagement?

3 years? 5 years?

If not, for now.... please endure the BS by seniors and junior.

Yes, hahaha that’s right. Audit quality at its best. The offshore team can just copy and paste the prior year's threshold for sampling without informing the onshore team, and it’s signed off by their offshore team reviewer.

School results barely matter once you’re out in the working world. You look at the M and SM you think they very smart? They are the lousiest of their batch that’s why they still stuck in big4.

Apart from technical skills, seems like most of them lack the interview skills to be moving to better roles. Stuck in a soul-sucking job in their 30s and 40s, having to juggle extreme working hours and their kids, with near-zero chance of making partner.

So to those staff and seniors currently at big 4, please don’t be blindsided by your chase for progression/promotions. Take a step back and consider the life you want to be living in your 30s and 40s and make the correct moves in your career.
