Ya those malaysias gonna have a harder time coming here. 5k Minimum for new visa or renewal. S1 salary only 4.7-4.8k yo. Those smarter malaysians will convert to PR, but once u are PR (dunno how many years), your spending power drops by a good 20% employee cpf + 17% employers cpf. So my as well go commercial.
What makes you think jhk can tahan? the only silver lining is the 3.5 :1
Good luck big 4
Everyone is rushing to exit as i type this, just look at how many of you peeps updated your linkedin profile is solidly funny

There's always cmi people who think big 4 is the pinnacle. The issue is big 4 don't want to hire them. So many local mid tier people who want to join but can't get in.
Anyway better to go commercial but pls don't bring the stupid OT culture there. I've lost count of clients who are still working at 2am because they brought the stupid hardcore audit OT mentality there.

But then, as the days go along, I realized that something is very wrong when out of 10 managers I meet, only 2 are local breed. Not only that, I really wondered very hard how could some of such people got promoted to managers when they could not even string a basic sentence properly. Their review notes are hard to decipher and many times make completely no sense. They are the bunch of people who likes to OT unnecessarily and still unable to churn out any quality **** in the end. With this kind of **** environment to work in, convince me what other reasons do I have to stay?

Your first mistake is taking career advice from a professor.
Professors' knowledge about real job market trends are usually 10 years behind. They stay in ivory towers to teach. What do they know about applying to real jobs in the industry.
Your second mistake is letting the so-called reputation of the brand overwhelm you. To the layman, Big 4 might seem like a big prestigious employer. But everyone inside knows its just accounting at heart.
Look at the actual nature of the work you're doing, not the branding which can be faked. So many startups pretend to be cutting edge atas companies but they're built on a house of cards.

Listed Co / big GLC are equally xiong, maybe slightly better than audit.
Who want to OT if they avoid?

This year seniors are the covid generation seniors who mostly wfh during their associate years. The audit quality is so poor. Can't even guide the juniors, all they do is delegate delegate delegate and ask them ask the manager instead all because they are "busy with delegating"

a lot of people left without jobs because they couldn't take it any longer, or they jump out for same pay, not a pay bump.
that said, it's mainly managers resigning at my side. not sure why so few senior resigned this year compared to previous years.

Because senior salary now higher at 4.8, even if jump out its hard to get a pay bump. more likely to get a pay cut or maintain. most commercial roles dont pay their accountants, analyst well. and there is the limit for commercial roles salaries as most already taken by cheaper jhk
