Default started working in 2018

master degree (software engineering)

worked in university as research engineer
2018 - $4000
2019 - $4200

hopped to ang moh IT company in mid-2019
2019 - $6000
2020 - $6000 (covid no increment)
2021 - $6500
2022 - $7500
2023 - just adjusted to $8500

2012 - 26.4K (private degree path)
2013 - change job 31.2K (18%)
2014 - annual increment 35.1K (11%)
2015 - change job 49.6K (41%)
2016 - missed the increment, joined 1month later
2017 - annual increment 54.2K (9%)
2018 - promotion 62K (14%)
2019 - annual increment 64.3K (4%)
2020 - change job 91.5K (41%)
2021 - annual increment 94K (3%)
2022- change job 120K (28%)

if you looking to increase your salary, i highly recommend job hopping.

???? what lanjiao IT company you working at? every single tech company in the world ramped up hiring in late 2019 all the way till mid 2022, thats why most of them have mass layoff after realizing they fked up

all sgd/annum
2016 - 1st contract job 36k
2017 - 2nd job 84k
2018 - basic 3% increment
2019 - basic 3% increment
2020 - left to do phd, only stipend, 60k
2021 - still phd 60k
2022 - change job, start from near fresh grad level, 91k

all IT sector. now 2022 data engineer in china tech.

what do u guys think. quite sad yah. after 5-6 years but some fresh grads getting paid this much. hope it scales better from here on cause not going to switch industry/role much already

I mean why the fk would you do PhD then go back to being a generalist techie lol wtf?

what was the point? people get PHD to become professors cause they love teaching...

could have gotten at least 120k / year in 2021, that was the peak of the hiring / crazy TC with tech giants everywhere throwing money everywhere.

anyway cheer up, very very few fresh grads getting as much as u anyway at least in this crappy market. no point comparing top 0.5% fresh grads to urself rofl you're not top 0.5% buddy, not when u get a PhD only to go back to a generalist role, seriously wtf
