Was told that its very technical, like a verbal applied econometrics exam and they go into details of deconstructing your thesis. The best is cannot smoke because the panels are academia and professional econometricians.

It’s a very technical role anyway.

i only attended a career talk. they are more towards research economics for policy making, so they can be studying causal impacts (metrics and model building) and/or macroeconomic data. under the scheme, they will be seconded to any ministry/SB after the stint at MTI to be their data scientist or economic research officers.

didn't know the government has these people. they should just get academics to do these work, why waste money hiring people

academia are all PhD, they probably a lot cost more to do policy research, and since they are all economist they know the dynamics of the labour markets and outcomes. Nonetheless i recall their economic panels and senior economist roles have a few PhD.

i guess maybe it is for those who wants to do research in economics but don't want to do a PhD? They said a lot of economists move on for masters (not sure sponsored or not) also, and a lot of them inside have some qualifications (ug, pg or phd) from top universities like Oxbridge, LSE, UCL so i imagine it to be quite competitive in there by default, and given the technical rigour of their interviews.

just estimating. haha. i think for fresh grad maybe 2.6 onwards from SIM standards all the way to 4.2 at NUS standards for MX scheme? don't want to overquote here, a lot of fresh grads will think they are entitled to what they read here.

to the fresh grads, please take this with a pinch of salt! meaning if they don't offer you on the stats you read here don't nego too much until you lose the offer.

actually i jus find it hard to believe the gap for fresh grad between private uni and local uni can be so big. i rmb someone told me before the main classifications are local FCH, local 2nd upper, and the rest. what i mean is 2nd lower onwards, the gap between the differnt class may be insignicant.

if not under specialist scheme (i.e, economist service), then possibly looking at 3.8-4k?
