You should be looking at 6k base a least for 5.5 years.

I am not from engineering but is around 8k overall package with 5 years experience.
So I need a 10k package to switch job.

If you dont think its a good offer, better to stay put. No point leaving with such increment.

This (promo increment) also happens when some staff get confirmed, since they get put to MX12 from MX13 upon confirmation.

Otherwise, % increase doesn't tell you much, since they are dependent on current salary of the individual. Someone earning more getting a 5% increase might actually be getting a higher absolute sum increase than someone who earns lesser and gets a 10% increase.
I'm mx12 near the ceiling, my last increment was $229 and last grade was C+. Does this s'y anything? Been at this SB for a year, not fresh grad.

8k overall package means 8 x 12 annual salary package? Need 10k overall package means 25% already. Can see that you are very ambitious. You cannot expect over 10% jump everytime. It depends on industry, your previous job experience, new job compatibility, objective of changing job etc. It is quite naive to think to think each jump must get at least 15%.

I understand your point and not every employer is able to give that increment. But we are not talking fresh graduates but changing job with relevant experience.

If over 10% can't be achieved, it will be better to stay put in current company.

Asking for a decent increment is not about being naive or overly ambitious. In my industry people leave for 30 to 40% increment each time.

Maybe you can shed some light what is your industry for everyone to lust for it. Basically, what I mean is, changing job is not all about increment. There are many factors to change job. Based on your reasoning, one might forgo a job with good prospect which gives you less than 10% increment or one will choose to stay at a job which is not suitable to him and cause him any sort of health issue because there is no job offer that gives him more than 15% increment. And many many other examples

This is the naivety part I am talking about. Too one dimensional.

I am in the commodities industry. We can't confirm that the grass is greener on the other side.
Good prospect also can't be confirmed until you join the company. There are really very few companies that can offer best of all worlds.

Your examples are mainly due to the push factors i.e there are reasons that make you want to leave.
If that happens, your bargaining power is already severely reduced.

I will leave this back to people from CS. Perhaps I am not in the best position to give appropriate advice for CS increment.

Appreciate the advice. Need different perspectives to evaluate the options. I tried to nego for higher pay, and hr just got back with a final offer, which was 3% more than previously offered (from 5.3k to 5.4k). Anws, with my 5.5 year exp, sb only offered is mx12. Offer stated mx12 range is 2.8-5.8k. So in other words, i need to be promoted to mx11 within 2-3 years otherwise pay hentak kaki... ceiling is indeed very real... dont know whether to take up offer still...
