He mean he had work

5 years in the ministry + 2 to 2.5 yrs of NS

Salary for fresh grads(2012)
1st Class Honours Degree(taken from home affair website)
$3,752 with 2 years NS / $3844 with 2.5 years NS
$3,384 non-NS*

from the above you can see that with 2 years NS is additional $368 to starting salary.

so for every 1 year of NS you serve, mean you got additional of $184 increment, and $184 is approx 1 year of annual increment in the civil service for average 'C' performer. Thus those serve 2 years NS will get +$368, and serve 2.5 years NS will get +$460.

because some people serve 2.5 years NS last time (those male born on or before 1983), their addition NS increment is (368/2) x 2.5 = $460

-----------------------

got 1 female friend of mine, also 1st class NUS/ no NS, 7 years exp in ministry, now getting approx 6.3K

Maybe 5-6 years, faster if you have a promotion during this time.

Worry less about how much they give you and concentrate more on working hard and doing a good job.

Average performer , annual increment ~5%

3.7k x 1.05^5 = 4.7k

if include 1 promotion at least should minimum hit 5k.

5yr will hit 5k with 1 promotion, maybe higher if got any "wage adjustment" just earlier this year in feb, all MX12 to MX10 got 10-5% wage adjustment on top of the annual increment in april.

What I can say if 99% got 1 "wage adjustment" just before the 2016 election

Default Best pay/effort ratio - DSTA

Just got to chit-chat lunch with some ex-colleagues in various GLCs/Stat boards. Heard that DSTA now offers best pay/effort package. Pay/effort ratio means min efforts and max rewards unlike medical doctors who "siong" under housemen training. Fresh 1st and 2:1 engineering grads (non-scholars) now command close to ~$4.5K, even higher than CSIT.

So, now who say engineering is dead?

as far as I know from 2011 batch,

DSTA engineer are paid as below;

Engineers
1st Class - $3,580
2nd Upper - $3,280
2nd Lower - $3,080
No employment below 2nd lower
For guys with NS, add $300 to the figure above.

you see 1st class with NS is only 3880, where got 4.5k

even if you add +10% more to this 3880 (I dunno whether got any wage adjustment in 2012 or not, I presume got addition +10%), the max is $4268 for 1st class with NS......

if the adjustment is +15%, well then 1st class with NS will get about 446x ~approx 4.5k starting....

how about considering getting a postgraduate sponsorship to study policy making or public administration, for you to enhance your potential & to climb higher.

Hi,

"Starting Salary

Fresh graduates will be appointed at Management Executive 13 with a gross monthly salary of S$2,400 – S$4,350.

Those who have completed full-time National Service or have relevant/useful working experience will be granted additional increments and be appointed at a higher salary point.
"

Just wondering the how much a 2nd upper with NS will command... $4,100??
