took a scholarship. need to be sure of what you want ... because when you are back reporting to the ministry there is much for you to do. And people hating on you for no reason just because you took a scholarship when you needed money to study(some people just automatically dislike you cos you "scholar").
If you're taking the scholarship because you believe you can serve the country, there are much better ways. So be mentally prepared to be jaded. Please see behind all the fancy adverts they put out when recruiting students
If you're taking it because of the prestige, please forget it and don't be one of *those* scholars, there is really no prestige aside for whatever you imagine on your own.
Take it and serve the best you can if you need the scholarship to finance your studies.

Opportunities will come along upon graduation and you will wonder why you are still stuck in a bond with very high amount of compensation to pay, in the event you realise you really hate your job
With a scholarship, ensure your grades every year are minimally second upper or HR will haunt you to no end.

I never regretted taking the scholarship because my family finally has better finances now. But it comes at a cost. When you are done with your bond, you may be too "old" to join some other industry of your dream

Default Advice on job offer MX12

Hi all,

Need some advice here.

I'm a 26yo female, graduated from a local university with FCH and have been working in an investment bank back office under a graduate scheme for 3 years now. I'm currently drawing a monthly salary of $5.5k (no 13th month bonus) and I'm thinking of making a switch to the public service.

I have recently been offered $4.9k for MX12 in a statutory board. And there will be the component of 13th month bonus as well.

Is this package reasonable? Do you think there will be scope for negotiation to match my current salary of $5.5k? Appreciate if someone can help advise as I'm honestly not very familiar with the salary range in the public service.

Thank you!

Why not continue to work in your current industry?

There are a variety of push factors that make me want to consider a career switch to public service instead.. I think this field that I'm currently in (Investment Bank Back Office) has very little growth prospects / opportunity for career progression and I do see colleagues stuck in the same grade for many years. Hence thinking of switching to the public service where theres a lot more stability and more structured progression.

That said, I also want to make sure I'm remunerated fairly based on the experience I have in the private sector. I'm not desperately trying to change job right now, hence wanted to find out if this package is reasonable in the public service, or if I should try negotiating or apply for other statutory boards instead.

Appreciate if someone can help advise if the package is reasonable for someone with 3 years private sector experience. Thanks!
