Do people here feel that the working culture in the public sector is more toxic, and that people tend to be less forgiving to others, compared to the private sector.
It's like every single mistake you make, people are on you relentlessly.
It didn't happen to me, but I had a colleague who missed a reported fracture. Pt was recalled the next day, nothing major happen to her (it was a undisplaced metatarsal fracture), just a delayed referral to Ed for casting by 1 day. (Traced eventual outcome, nothing major happen, seen Ortho 1 week later, placed in aircast boot)
But my boss took umbrage and decided to report my colleague (who is cond reg) to smc? Now my friend having difficulty getting full reg...
Tbh in my time in ops, I have seen gps outside refer for more dodgy/dangerous things (like chest pain to ops for ecg, best one was a k 6.6, to ops for subsidized gm referral??) But pple outside seem to care less or more forgiving

Can I check, if you apply for a job with a gp group, what is the average processing time?
If you do not hear back from them within a week regarding an interview date, is it safe to assume that you are rejected?

it is not more toxic... it is because public hospital are accountable to MOH unlike private, so u really cannot make a mistake, if patient complains and traced to you, your RO which is the consultant will be in trouble
that is the reason why all the public hospitals treats result acknowledgement very seriously, if missed diagnosis or late diagnosis resulting in adverse outcomes, not only the MO, the RO (consultant in charge) will kena

Just as toxic in private. But in private you are responsible for your own practice. But you are also ALONE.
Medicine is like that. Do right 99.99% of the time - NO ONE CARES. Make a mistake 0.0001% you kena!
Toxic profession.
