It didn't happen to me, but I had a colleague who missed a reported fracture. Pt was recalled the next day, nothing major happen to her (it was a undisplaced metatarsal fracture), just a delayed referral to Ed for casting by 1 day. (Traced eventual outcome, nothing major happen, seen Ortho 1 week later, placed in aircast boot)
But my boss took umbrage and decided to report my colleague (who is cond reg) to smc? Now my friend having difficulty getting full reg...
Tbh in my time in ops, I have seen gps outside refer for more dodgy/dangerous things (like chest pain to ops for ecg, best one was a k 6.6, to ops for subsidized gm referral??) But pple outside seem to care less or more forgiving

U sure or not.
This kind kenna report to smc is basically the last straw in a line of mistake
Anyway, got X ray report can still miss a fracture
Means never read the report?!
Cannot lei. Not acceptable
I got mis - read the wet film before cos X ray report not out when doing X ray at 5pm.
End up got fracture
But it's incompetence, not neligence.
U could have also report the GP who didn't take action for a k of 6.6

We all know it's a mistake. But everyone make mistakes at the end of the day. Seems that we work in an unforgiving industry...

In other industry, one mistake and you can be fired
Here still got job not bad liao
Overall the medical fraternity is not too unforgiving
If u are well liked, hardworking pple usually help you.
Ur ' colleague' who Kenna reported confirm got other problems
Then management decide need to slap her or him ( or is it you)
Clinic boss also not the real boss
Report to smc, he has to clear with upstairs also
Quality, clinical services and even CEO usually involved
These pple at hq need to look at other aspects as well.
Dun believe 1 single miss X ray report will report to smc.

Just curious, will your boss like/trust you more if you have mmed lol?
Maybe not so much in the context of this case (missed fracture) but more so when it comes to dealing with complaints etc..(that if you have mmed/fcfp, the management will believe in your account or story more than if you just mbbs/gdfm)

Would like to ask for people who have gone through ops and subsequently left for private, what are the usual triggers or push factors? Is it pay, stress/pressure, job satisfaction, failure to clear mmed, work culture, or family reasons?

Toxic profession.

it is life and death 1 mistake out of 10000000 good deeds is sufficient to damage ur reputation or get ur license suspended or revoked

It is not life and death always lah.
If it is truly so dangerous and important then doctors and ALL doctors should be paid a heck of a lot more.
The reality is a doctor can only hurt or kill ONE person with ONE mistake. Hence this is why the pay is so low and is continuing to lag behind.
A pilot make a mistake kills hundreds.
ONE person......as long as not you or your loved one nobody give two hoots.

agree with your statements totally
for example, if you come to work early, generally efficient.
overall a nice and polite person, dont shun away from responsibility
then one day you forgot to refer stat (coz misread), do you think your boss will fry you
or treat it as an honest mistake?

Obligated to report your medical negligence. Not personal.
medicine is a find fault profession. Focus on the mistakes and negatives.
Look at the other side.
has any doctor ever been awarded or rewarded for making an excellent diagnosis that could have been missed? Solved a diagnostic problem?
All downside no upside
