In my line of work, being humble gets you nowhere.

Results earn respect. You want to kindness and empathy, go work for the Dalai Lama. This is Singapore, look at our leaders in white, if you honestly think they got there by being a saint, you need a reality check as well.

Sad but true. The trick in corporate world is how to act confident and even arrogant without coming across as obnoxious. Need to strike a fine balance as overboard can be counter productive also.

On the other hand, unless one is looking to do social work, teaching and some niche areas, acting humble is the fastest way to get booted out of the game. I have seen a lot of nice humble colleagues whom everyone seems to like but somehow they always don't move fast and usually stuck at mid or lower levels.

Dude, I am advising her to ignore negative comments such as your comments. Everyone needs encouragement but comments like yours reflect the kind of personality traits you have. Sorry this is a fact. If she can't even wait 2 days after sending a email to a hiring manager, I shudder to think what will happen to her in the corporate world.
