Yes HR only mentioned the salary upon confirmation of the offer by email. They did not mention anything before or give me a salary range although they did ask me for my current salary and what my expectations were. It was quite a shock when I saw the salary offered but they justified with the government’s bonus scheme altho I am not convinced.

is it really compulsory to provide your current salary?

suspect that it might have been used to lowball u. anyway if u really feel lowballed, dont accept

i think for public sector you can’t get away with not providing your current drawn. yes i’ll think about it seriously whether it’s an offer worth accepting.

Did they match your current salary? For myself, HR asked for my expected salary but i did not give them any numbers, now i’m worried they will give me lower than what i’m currently drawing.

Before CNY 2023 - submit online application
1st week of Feb - informed by HR that i’m shortlisted for interview
3rd week of Feb - went for 1st round of interview before a panel, got a call back from HR the same day to arrange for 2nd round interview + fill up G50 form
4th week of Feb - supposed to have the 2nd round interview but it was cancelled, HR email to ask for my referee’s contact details as they are proceeding with the application
End of Feb - my referee told me that she has done her part
Early March - informed by HR via email that they’re processing the application, also received an email from the hiring manager on my application progress
Mid March - HR update that they shld be able to inform me of the official outcome of my application by end march, pending approval from senior management
End March (also this week) - received official email offer from HR

Salary offered was however much below my expectations so I’m still considering the offer, and hoping HR would be able to increase the salary.
wah whh ministry is that?

they have a tendency to offer lower than your current salary especially if you’re switching mid career from private sector because normally private sector pay jumps higher and faster. i would say to mentally prepare yourself for that and hope it all works out in your favour!

The offered pay is calculated using a formula which includes factors such as relevant years of experience, qualifications etc, to ensure parity across those in the agency. Unlikely private, there is less autonomy for the HR to deviate from the numbers the formula yields.

Exceptions, i.e. to increase the pay just a few hundred dollars requires approval from senior management, i.e. either the PS or CE. So if you are gonna push hard for a better offer, you best hope they really like you.

I don’t have relevant experience for the role that I was offered. But my current salary in the private sector is only diploma level pay (I have a degree), so I’m not sure how is HR going to calculate the pay. If they go below my current pay, there’s really not much incentive to join.

Then don't worry so much and wait for the offer Good luck!

being through a few unsuccessful full time position interviews.

some handle it professionally process wise ie from start of interview process till giving the formal outcome within the 2-week time frame

they r those who ghost applicant ie call off the 2nd round appointment w/o telling candidate

some finally give reply after 3 reminders

that really sucks
