I haven’t had to work past 7pm at all since January.

Learn to set boundaries with your seniors and communicate your work hours and commitment.

honestly why they have to keep trying to push some sg ca cert, what's wrong with using foreign ones?

anyway happy new year to everyone who is trying to meet reporting deadline tomorrow but client is already on leave so no answering of your queries for things that cannot tie yahoo

I’m guessing you’re among the younger ones, not here in 2009 to 2010.

There was a push not to rely on foreign qualification but to establish our own local one to develop Singapore into an accountancy hub.

You can read more here:
s://.acra.gov.sg/public-accountants/professional-resources/cdas-final-report-on-transforming-singapore-into-a-leading-global-accountancy-hub-for-asia-pacific

Scroll down for the full report, and read recommendation 1.

Thanks for the source. Sounds like a lofty dream, not sure why they'd think it'll be a good idea considering expensive accountancy has not much difference from cheap ones except for certain high stakes transactions/lawsuits.

It's not that local u certs are like those Msian degree mill papers. NTU NUS SMU still prestigious. Look at the no. of China tourists visiting the campuses

It's what you do with it that matters. It's because sg kids who kenna conned into studying acc, sabo themselves in joining a sector that only require Msian degree mill papers. They shld have tried to get into finance, banks, MA prog, but they kum gong

The analogy is like give u conti car like BMW, but you use it to drive PHV instead of picking up chicks. end up deploy it to do the same job as a jap car

There was a lot of support back then - so many big names in the report supporting the recommendations. It’s mentioned in their letter to Mr Tharman, then Minister for Finance, they they spoke with a wide range of stakeholders that included undergraduates, educators, public accountants, professional accountants, national and international professional bodies, company directors, chambers of commerce, CFOs and government agencies.

Of course if you weren’t here in 2009, you wouldn’t have been part of these discussions, but you can ask your seniors.

Now more recently in 2023, a new panel was setup by ISCA who engaged undergraduates, young accountants, professional accountants in business and practice to make recommendations to the industry and specifically the SCAQ programme. This time round, maybe you or your juniors might have been involved?

The views in 2023 are a much more interesting read and relatable! I can’t help but agree with the view of youngsters that accounting is a one of long hours, low starting salaries, and lack of work life balance.

Can refer to here:

I can't help but notice you left out SIT and SUSS.. it would be more fair to include all autnomous universities.
