IB in Singapore takes in total maybe around 30-40 ppl every year

Top tier quant (that pays like Citadel) probably less than 5 per year...

There's a reason they are paid like MDs as a junior...

Hmm 5k, 25k. What types of opportunities do they look at, and how much work is actually done?

Didn't know of people in such clubs back in my time, so can't say much of the experience. But I would think the magntiude of capital (thus scope of investments and the work entail) matter.

Might potentially build the wrong habits from it. I think you can join those if you want to try it for fun. Getting good grades and build up knowledge/interview skills to secure that first related internship is more helpful.

(prev poster) I think it's possible to get into IB if you begin grinding in uni year 1. Not that it's not brutally difficult, and if you're not in the target clubs kinda SOL, but strictly speaking this is a possible situation.

I don't think anyone can begin thinking "quant is fun" in uni year 1 and make it into top quant shops.
