It’s not about starting pay - Local bank FO has chances to lateral ties BB FO, and local bank IB bonus is 6 months average. BB ops is 1-2 months,
Total comps for FO always wins BO

Personal view is BB back office is better than local banks IB. Apart from higher starting pay, anyone who can get into the former outfit should learn how to position his way to a more noticeable section or department in order to achieve higher visibility by upper management. With internal networking and upgrading the BB employee should be able to attain a basic remuneration of 10k by early thirties. That's pretty comfortable. Whereas in local IB I am just put off by its small capital market and M & A activities.
