Here very gd if you want have kids. A lot join as dd then not longer after go give birth free 16 weeks paid maternity. Some even give birth multiple times. End up others do their work.

Who pay tax?

It is your colleagues kids that pay tax

Isnt it therefore just that you help your colleagues now so that they can have kids to support you next time?

Government already said that for Singapore, every generation must support itself. It's not some ponzi scheme where we tax young people to fund old people.

In a way u are wrong.
Lots of government funds were used on healthcare and elderly support.
U can easily read up on the budget to know how much they spent.

I visited the polyclinic. 95% is elderly. Subsidies were all given for them.
Merdeka, pioneer card? Lots of discount for private dental, and clinics.
Even bus fares were heavily subsidized.

Clearly, the funds used on them were taken from the pool of gov revenue, which consist of all the taxes that everyone pays.

Its a cycle. Subsidized rate = lower tax for them to pay = lower gov revenue = how to support their own generation?

Currently, there is 0 birthrate. No foreigners coming into SG, and nobody is leaving.

50 years later. SG is a city full of elderly.

Not any of the earlier posters but I agree with this.

There is certainly a case that government funds are used to support elderly and whatnot. I am also all for supporting colleagues during maternity or parental leave.

But the OP gripe was the perceived unfairness in distribution of workload from female officers who went on long leave after joining and apparently more than once. The response did not clearly link how the present unfairness will be mitigated by the anticipated future benefit.

I personally do not think that most senior ADs and DDs with annual pay package exceeding $100k will, in retirement, fall into the class of elderly who stand to benefit most from government subsidies.

Much has also been said on adequacy of early financial planning, including building up own CPF for own retirement. So I find it hard to jibe with the argument that it is fair for colleagues to bear a heavier workload in anticipation of being supported by their colleagues kids in their old age. I do think however that in such situations manpower needs would probably be addressed by hiring replacements on fixed term contracts?

Why do you think they are arguing in parliament about the reserves?

Obviously because a lot of the taxes collected from individuals and businesses are saved and invested. If not you think GIC and Temasek exist for fun ah?

How naive, thinking that every dollar taxed is used for current spending only.

You sound like the type that will treat your kids as a piggybank in the future because based on your logic, when you are old and not working, who is going to support you?

If you are working in MAS, please resign and don't embarrass yourself any further.
