Default A good degree helps but You need luck too

A good degree is needed to land a job but you really need some luck too.
Just as an example a ex colleague of mine from our first job had a first class honors degree in engineering from nus. As for me I could not even get into nus and so went to north America and got my Bachelor of sc degree there. My frd went on to get his MBA from nus. Today fast forward 22 years later my annual pay including bonus is 190k while my frd barely reached the 100k mark. We both work in the finance sector.

You guys in mid-forties are earning such modest amounts in financial sector? It's a little inconsistent with those 200-300k figures posted by other financial professionals here.

Agree. Paper qualifications open the door but it is all about performance (and sometimes luck) after that.

I have first class honors. After working for so long, I don't even mentioned that anymore.

At least he has it. Nothing wrong if he wants to flaunt it.

He did not say who he is so I don't think he is not boosting any ego at all.

Non-Anonymity is not a precondition for HLing leh. People here do that quite frequently under guise.

And I was just making an observation. Wonder what that "at least he has it" comment was all about too. Haha.

Yes in front office. My boss is svp and I reckon her pay is around 250-300k. We are not Americans who r known to be "pay masters" for front office.
