How much are you earning per annum?

Currently 30 and wifey 27. Both just started new job together and would be earning together 120k p.a only.

Have a 5 rm HDB in the north with no kids or car.

Seems like lower than average in Singapore haha.

Hopefully our new job will allow us to spend more time as family and also earn enough to live our life how we wanted.

If u can saved nett 10% each year and assuming both are gainfully employed till 60 yrs, projected savings would be $360k or $720k for 20%. I am discounting salary increased, kids, car and other holidays for simple illustration on your potential savings. But this is present value n the future value would meant a much smaller sum. So you need to think n plan ahead as organic savings wld not be sufficient.

Bonus is between 1-1.5x

I try to save between $2-2.5k per month after deducting monthly expenses, insurance, transport, utilities and some contribution to the household toiletries and groceries.

My savings are 30% cash, 70% in ETFs and RoboAdvisors, trying to save and build up a small saving account for wedding.

I know it is far from all the other achievers in this forum. Just want to seek advice and honest opinions from experienced forumers how am I doing? and if I can do better in terms of investing to grow my savings more.

Hoping to find a partner and settle down in the next 1 to 2 years

I recently met a lady from online dating app, she is 1 year younger than me (29) doing sales (non banking) in FMCG. I was shocked that she already invested in a 2 bedder condominium at her age.

Looking back, I do not even have sufficient savings to hold a proper wedding. Let alone buying / investing in properties.

Hence I want to get some feedback on what I am doing wrongly

I think is the FMCG industry and also given that she might have started working since 23 to 24 years old.

I got a condo just before 30 years old also; took 6 years to do so, with first 3 years of paying study loan and next 3 years saving up.

You are not doing anything wrongly; just that people have different goals in life.

Does anybody else agree with this discussion on competition for local jobs?

Life is indeed a lot better now.

Life is not about the endless pursuit of material wealth. The hunger for material wealth, power and status is never ending by those who are fooled by this world.

True wealth = sufficient material wealth + spiritual and emotional wealth + physical and mental health + spending time with family + free time to enjoy and do what we want + travel the world + lots of reading on many subject matters + meaningful fulfilling relationships + giving back to society + richness in life experiences.

We only live once on this earth. YOLO. Time on this earth is the most valuable asset which no one knows how much he is given. No one knows when he is going to die. Every second spent will be gone forever. A lucky few will die in their 90s while most will die in their 70s and 80s. Some will die in their 50s and 60s before they can enjoy a single day of retirement. Some die young, in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

I am very fortunate and blessed to be able to retire at 44. I have so far enjoyed six years of early retirement.

I am very happy and grateful as I have achieved FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) while still enjoying a very good and comfortable lifestyle in Singapore, one of the top cities in the world and the best city to live in Asia.
