1. condos are cleaner. More spacious.
2. because we have to walk atleast 500m everyday if we want to take a bus. The bus stops are generally quite far. This means, more exercise.
3. because there is a guard who oversees the security. Even if he is old, sleeping, hardly understands what we speak to him - atleast he is there.
4. because we have pool, gym and barbeque facilities that we use once a month or maybe quarterly.
5. According to statistics, 15% people live in Condos. Out of them, 10% are owned by Singaporeans. 5 million population means we are an elite group of around 75000 singaporeans. Since, elitism is favoured, we are lucky.
6. For our shopping, we generally have to travel a bit of distance compared to people living in HDB flats where markets are nearby. We are kept away from the noise generated in markets. Even if sometimes we need something urgent, we take about 30 min to get it. This makes us good planners because we start planning for things early on. We also are able to predict well.

ha ha.. good one.
To add :
7. Condo stayers pay higher fees and get less from govt.
8. everyone drives a car. but that means at least we have a 1 parking space in the condo for us. Some HDB may not have even parking space
9. condo can get enbloc and stayers get cash windfall. HDB no such thing as enbloc

Compared to HDB, condo living is better because:
1. Higher level of security - You don't worry about strangers loitering outside your home. You don't have loan sharks writing O$P$ on the wall outside your unit. You don't have salesmen and property agents knocking on your doors. You can rest and sleep in peace.
2. Cleaner environment.
3. Facilities - You can enjoy the gym, pool, clubhouse, etc. and walk/ jog in the park around the condo.
4. Prestige and higher social status - It is an affirmation of your success, all your hard work since young in school to your working life has paid off. Friends, colleagues and relatives will respect and look up to you and you will always be the role model of success for your younger relatives and colleagues.
5. Overall, your quality of life is much, much better.

My hubby and I sold our HDB flat after the MOP, we then bought a condo in the West. We have lived there for about a year and enjoying every minute of it. We really enjoy the environment and facilities. We hope to pay off the loan in the next 20 years. It is all worth it. I feel relaxed whenever I come back to my beautiful condo.

Only the TOP 15% of Singapore residents live in condo.
Staying in a condo is definitely a highly desirable thing. For young couples and FTs who cannot afford a condo yet, they can start by renting a one bedroom condo. They can then save up until they can afford one. Renting a condo is affordable, you can rent a one bedroom condo for only $3500 in the West. If a couple earns $6000 each per month, their household income is $12,000 per month. Their rent is only about 30% of household income. They can then save 30% of their income over 5 years to pay for the downpayment of their condo.
Living in a condo unit is very prestigious, only those who have studied very hard in school and then have good jobs can afford a condo. Hence, if you live in a condo (whether you own or rent it), it shows you are the hardworking and successful ones.
A condo also has many nice facilities such as the gymnasium, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, tennis courts, the clubhouse and luxurious landscaping. Steeping into a condo gives you a sense of tranquillity, peace and well-being. A condo is also safer.

Then why not buy and stay in a HDB first. Pay for the HDB using their CPF and save 60% of their income. They would be able to buy a condo in 2.5years, instead of 5 years.
Why help others pay for their condo by renting from them? The rental you pay over the 5 years (210k) can already foot the deposit.

Living in a condo is no different from HDB except that you have amenities at your doorstep, and that security is better. Plus you won't feel that cluttered as the condo is sort of like a tiny village within a village (neighbourhood).
Having said that, it also depends on what kind of condo are you referring to. Nowadays, condo units are smaller and location not that ideal. Some condo may not have the full amenities as well.
I think living within one's means is better - no point trying very hard to "upgrade" from a HDB to a condo if you need to compromise on other areas. Plus property prices are extraordinary high nowadays, better to save up the money and attempt to upgrade when you see a good opportunity.

That's not true.
My colleague has 2 cars but the condo only allows him to park 1 in the condo. He has to park the other 1 car elsewhere along the street. He wasn't even allowed to buy another 1 lots.
On the contrary, my household also has 2 cars and all 2 are parked in the MSCP nearby.

You may not want to be seen staying in a HDB, esp iif you have high class friends. The address you have in your mail is very important. You can only understand this if you are in this social circle. I will rent a condo any time to be accepted to be in this circle.
