Don’t listen to the naysayers.

It is true that law is a competitive industry n things may look not look good in the firm if you don’t pass. Then again, it is not uncommon to fail part b papers at all, especially ethics. It doesn’t mean you’re not gonna be a good lawyer. Could be tricky question, ran out of time, etc.

Opportunities also rise and ebb, so one hiccup is not the end of the story for you. Just study hard, retake the paper and try to pass it the next time round. All the best!

lawyers should be more resilient to see there are obstacles in life and not everything will go your way

stop caring about things like 'optics' and what people see and/or think about you.

what's the fail rate for main papers and supp papers? what happens if you still fail the supp paper?
which modules have higher fail rates?
which modules have lower fail rates?
is there moderation?
for modules with mcq, what's the best way to approach it since there's no practice questions provided? eg. ethics, where the mcq choices are very close and its hard to choose the "correct" answer
if you fail several modules, what options are available?

Product of the sg education embodied in text. I’ve never understood why knowing the passing rate is important and never will. It will only add to your already existing anxiety regardless of the number.

There isn’t a model answer that you might be expecting and in my opinion the sooner you ditch that mindset the better. You’ll be in for a rude awakening otherwise. Just have at it knowing you’ve done your LLB and are trained well to tackle the bar. Sure there may be external factors that you cannot control, like trick questions as I’ve seen from the previous post, but you’ll be able to let those go and still pass. Don’t get caught up with these tricks and do your best.

Agree with previous posts. It doesn't help your mindset at all to focus on pass/fail rates as it only tends to increase anxiety. So what if the pass rate is 50%, you could fall on either side depending on your prep.

Don't have the answers to your questions. Except a longer term reminder that part b exams are just the start of your law career. Doing well at the start doesn't guarantee a smooth journey throughout.

You may find that the people you come across in the time to come - sharks, snakes, gaslighters, insecure jealous bullies who will say n do anything they can to derail you - can present much more tricky situation than any exam you've sat for as there are no ready answers. Even if preparation is on your side, bosses in your workplace may not be. You will find that academic failure pales in comparison to the potential failings of human character you may come across.

So where there are past papers practice them, where there aren't, internalize the material n keep taking till you pass. If a career in the law its yours, its yours. You don't move forward by looking sideways.

At Fervent, you have the opportunity to be the best you can be. The firm is in good hands of all the litigation and corporate partners that are there.

Failure is temporary. Ability is permanent.
At Fervent, our MD Mr Lun had 1 distinction for Part A and 2 distinctions for Part B. He is suspended from practice for 18 mths but can still run a thriving disputes practice and bring in USD 100m disputes while holidaying in Europe. We are like cockroaches, invincible and fearless/

If you work in A&G, you won't have time to go to the gym.

To continue, the big5 have started lengthening the partnership timeline from 7 to 9 years, adding a counsel tier in between. It is also common to now see 10pqe Senior Associates. These are some of the creative ways the big firms have introduced to maintain PEP.
