You stand a better chance if you're from a brand name, big firm.

I transited from a mid sized firm (doing disputes and the occasional odd contract review) to in-house at around 4-5PQE. But moderate your expectations. The better in-house roles in the more exciting industries are reserved for those with corp experience.

You need to play up the advisory aspects of your experience in your CV, so that your recruiter can sell you better. That means remove all the nitty gritty references about liti. Nobody is interested in reading about "interlocutory applications" or "security for costs" in your CV.

Use your first in-house job as a stepping stone to better roles. Good luck.

YES.

Many of us have done so. The learning curve is quite steep so and it would be better to join an MNC with team so you are afforded some training/space to fail. At lease for your first rodeo. I wouldn't recomment a sole contributor position until after you are familiar with how in-house works.

I moved in-house at 2.5yrs pqe. Joined an MNC in a very specialised field. I was matching most of my big4 peers in terms of salary within 2 years (pqe 5-ish). Then... my old law firm called me back and offered me better terms. So i went back to practice and brought the MNC back with me as a client.

TOTALLY POSSIBLE.

A lot of my peers have have moved in-house from liti as well.

Anyone has experience in RPC Premier Law? Legal 500 just listed them as a firm to watch, wondering if it is all just hype.

Good rep in insurance? Though there aren't many other players in this space.

Liti wise, they lost Siraj Omar to drew, so I'm not sure how they are on this front now.

They are ranked for Insurance. Seems like they got a new team gor liti and the liti team is ranked as firm to watch. Haven't heard about the partners before, they seem low profile...

The many rounds of humblebrags and faux modesty by all of those in the list in Legal 500 over the last 24 hours on LinkedIn and other platforms has been quite frankly painful to read. I can’t help but hope for some objective standard to be required in these rankings in future….

I agree. It is very painful to read.
You don’t see the same for accountants, and frankly they work even harder during audits.

LI and social media has always been about humble bragging.

And lawyers are braggier than most hehehe. We're quite alike insurance and property agents in that sense, just more cerebral. Plus most lawyers hv the tendency to think that they're smarter than other lawyers - search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Whenever there's ranking - the very notion implies there are "better" lawyers, you wouldn't escape people tooting their own horn.

I think it’s very frustrating and annoying to read.
I mean a facility agreement for instance is a facility agreement.
How do you tell lawyer A doing one agreement is better than the other? Apart from how much the client likes you?
