Smile Pay stagnation

Not likely gonna increase, I believe. As NQ, your values have not been proven and the partners or Senior Assocs still need to spend time to teach you. Law firms could have hired paralegals at a lower rate and they can provide work with similar quality as NQ folks.

Also, with the high turnover, why invest so much in an NQ chap? Law firm sees no benefits in increasing NQ pay and hence you can wait until 海枯石烂,天荒地老before your pay raise

Great work, great team. Only thing I heard about it is the hours are super bad precisely because people are afraid of the rumours, nobody wants to join. Vicious cycle type thing.

Paralegals are hit or miss. It's not like there are no poor quality paralegals also, and you act as though they aren't on the lookout for better prospects elsewhere. The good ones are good because they've stayed on long enough to amass the experience.

Plus the firm can't bill out for paralegal work at the same rate as the NQ.

Anyway, there's now a shortage of lawyers so good luck to firms finding the elusive 3-4PQE to do their work at a high quality if they don't change their compensation scale. Because junior lawyers are not sticking around and grateful merely to have a job now.

Hours are late as expected for law firm I guess, but does anyone know if the bosses are verbally abusive, etc? The department is especially notorious among all the litigation groups in wongp and don’t seem to understand why

Lol confirm not in law or some cheapo partner that refuse to raise past 6k trying to "justify" his cheaponess LOLOL.

Hello, even if you give the NQ a small % of the files they deserve more than 6k. The partners do not deserve 90-95% of the billable on the files.

Somemore, the high turnover is caused by the lower pay. It is exactly because there is "high turnover" that you should be spending more to attract talent. It's like saying eh high turnover, let's let the whole industry go to ****... don't do anything to mitigate the loss.

I can use your goondu thinking for any industry sia.. I can even use the inverse.

Eh high turnover for (insert industry here), so no need high pay la.. they gonna run soon, dunnit pay higher.

Eh low turnover for (insert industry here), means they satisfied with the pay, dunnit pay higher.

Then when you pay higher? When there is high-low turnover or low-high turnover? Or you want a perfect 50-50 balance first then can raise?

No b4 litigation team is without its issues. Perhaps team culture is your biggest worry, perhaps billable work is your main concern. Either ways, you are going to be put through the gauntlet at a b4 liti team. Pick your poison.

London are moving to match NY rates. When the majority of the US firms move upwards, the MC and SC firms will soon have to move upwards too.

Meanwhile, Big 4 in Singapore have raised payscales like once in 10 years? Fu*k this cheapo profession man.

Tbh, reading the comments. What's the incentive for the firm/partner to raise NQ pay sia? I don't think any firm/partner wanna play Jesus or Buddha to save the ailing legal sector in SG. coz now it sounds like only NQ kpkb.....

Actually, what's in it for firms to raise pay sia? which firms wanna play Buddha or Jesus to save the ailing legal industry. I think should increase those with PQE 5+ years coz they tahan like mad.

Aiya in this era, who still charge by hourly bill aside from our industry and tutors? Imagine ur cai png auntie charge u by hourly rate on the time she uses to prepare your food. Or if your secondary schl/JC charge u by hourly rate, i think you hongan liao
