If I were you I’ll kowtow to the Oxbridge grads. It’s investing in the future.

As someone who took law as a 2nd degree, I have first-hand experience in this.

You'll find that the opportunity cost drastically increases the older you are. Most of the people who take law past 35 are doing it mostly for childhood ambition, and their opportunity cost is super high (considering their mean income at the point of applying).

No one views the SUSS lawyers in a good light, which makes it an even worse proposition.

In terms of rigour, if you're doing the programme full-time, you'll likely be able to score well, as the programme is designed for night-school, part-time students.

Future prospects for community/family law is generally not as good as corp or commercial/civil litigation. Your likeliest future career is as a small, one-man shop in Chinatown, or a partner in b4/mid-size (but it'll be hard to advance to Equity Partner because you generally don't bring in enough business).

You'll still earn decently, as Chinatown lawyers can earn around 20-30k (and not working full weeks) if they're in the right location.

It’s your choice. The JLC stint is for 2 years, gives you a branding on top of Oxbridge.
But if you are after money, then it’s a no brainer you should take up a TC at a magic circle or white shoe in London.
It’s a tough decision to make, either way with a first from Oxbridge you’re set for life.
Hi im OP. Thanks for advice . I was considering between a SG training contract (2yrs) at the int’ll firm, versus JLC. Its a really tough one. Still mulling.

But yes, there’s only the bunch of us singaporeans in oxon / cantab, and the numbers are whittled down when you count those who came back to SG / got into JLC.
