Default Lateral transfers :)

Hi, I would like to ask whether a lateral transfer to different teams in a different firm would usually result in a PQE cut. I want to know if this is usually the norm or it depends on the person hiring?

Given this logic, if you transfer to a different firm of the same ranking as the current firm you are at but then in the same area of practice, then is it a given that your PQE remains the same? (Unless you are talking about moving from mid-sized to big four, then I understand that it depends on the situation. Sometimes there is a PQE cut and sometimes there isn't if you are lucky enough.)

Thanks for your response in advance. Would be extremely grateful if someone could provide some insights on this matter.

Depends on which firm. Responding to OP. Depends on what ur practice area is and the firm's policy.

If your boss appreciates your prev exp then you wont get a PQE cur

To add on, to make the contrast bigger: it's like comparing working in (or owning) a small firm making $10 to $15k but handling only State Court matters and general solicitors' work for the rest of your life (with reasonable hours too) v being an employee of a glam intl firm working on 'glam' deals (and only dealing with other employees who probably won't be as annoying as a private client).

I feel like doing an MBA for fun.

Is this a worthwhile ambition as a lawyer? Will have to be part time

The MBA will not assist you in your career as a lawyer in private practice.

But if it's for fun, why not?

I did an LLM for fun. Did not help in my career at all, but it was a good break from practice. Glad I completed before covid hit. heh.
