How to compare. How much do the top tier firms in the UK (and ofc US firms) bring in compared to Singapore's top tier local firms? Furthermore, the headline rates are also enjoyed by a far smaller proportion of the total legal profession in the UK. The average high street solicitor isn't making much.

Our Big 4 law firms are probably bringing in annual revenues roughly equivalent to a Top 35-40 UK law firm (if you go by The Lawyer ranking of Top 200 UK firms), i.e. ~SGD 250m to 300m

Not true at all... the baker disputes trainees this batch none are FCH... from what I heard a lot of FCH/ODL from NUS/SMU chose to go to big 4 instead of baker disputes

There is some merit in learning the value of humility and making do with less at the start of one’s career. Not being jelly or sour grapes. The fall is harder to bear when one starts off with S$25-30k salaries so soon after graduation, and subsequently need to ‘downgrade’ along the course of one’s career because the top can only accommodate that many. By that time, one might likely have acquired penchant for finer things in life, including expensive commitments that become unsustainable to finance on a lower pay.
