Seconded to independent schools, can prepare to hentak kaki.

The management there has nowhere to go, given that they are direct hires and are paid better than MOE teachers, and they also cannot apply for open posting as they are tied to the school.

The HODs are forever waiting for the SLs to leave/retire so that they can promote. The SHs are waiting for the HODs, while some poor newbie are conned to be coordinators for ages in their wait for SH openings. As long as people at the top don't move, everyone below will remain stagnant.

Secondees are not very valued also. Not valued by the independent schools because they are not direct hires. Not valued by MOE schools because the experience is not as directly transferrable as someone transferring in from a mainstream school.

It's a place where people go to retire after getting their GEO5, and stay as HOT.

If looking to climb, it's not the right place.

Yeah. Perhaps can start with the dead weight GEO5s and SEOs first.

Who would be willing to admit? Who would even wanna rock their already peaceful and stable boat?

On a more serious note, I'm sure the issue of diploma holders being shortchanged will be addressed soon, given how it has made it into national news. People up there being reactive, as usual.

I'm interested in how work and career progression is like in AST. Also, personnel in there will be rotated back into schools within 3 years?

Am curious.. how hard is it to climb on the specialist track?

I heard after joining the specialist track, there’s not v much lateral flexibility (if one wants to go back to teaching track). Is this true?

To this 99.99% troll, I suggest you get a life and stop trying to lower the rep of the already belittled teaching career. No one in your situation, will take time to post on 'Salary.sg' forum, to ask for advice about such sensitive issues.

But in the very unlikely case that it is real (0.01%), the honest thing to do is to report to School Leaders first. I won't advise you any other way.

No straight answer. But probably some truth in that it is easier to leave the leadership track than to leave the teaching/specialist tracks.

Leaders/managers = generalists
TLs/Specialists = subject matter experts

To jump from a generalist role and develop deep expertise in a specialised area tends to be a bit easier than vice versa. Not impossible though.
