Poly increments are normally in July. Performance bonus in April.

Default application for teaching position

Hi,

apply to poly for a number of teaching positions.

Got rejected for 1 position. However they advertise again for more applicant for the position I was electronically rejected online. Any chance of appeal?

I have over 10 years of relevant work experience and multiple higher degrees. However no teaching experience.

Any advice?

My advice; try as an adjunct lecturer first. The barrier to entry is typically lower with some teaching departments having more direct control over who they engage. Through this route, you will get some exposure to teaching that you say you're lacking in, and also make connections that might aid you to try for a permanent position later.

..
my advise is if you have been recently rejected (6 months), then do not apply again online.

the other alternative would be to see if you know someone in the poly who can help put you through the hiring manager (Not HR).

you can also consider the part time positions to gain some teaching experience.

i suspect there are various factors to consider. the hiring dept/poly might be looking at very specific skillsets (more than the job description put up).
Also sometimes the poly might be looking at certain experience (and also PAY profile) which the applicant might not be able to sense. Eg if the poly looking for PAX6 (junior lecturer) and your profile is already at say high pax5(the more seasonsed lecturer) or even pax 4 then the chances would be slim

Default Adjunct Lecturer

Hi all,

1. If you've been offered an adjunct lecturer position, what are the chances that this will lead to a full-time position?

2. How long will this take? 1 or 2 semesters if your performance is good?

3. If you've been offered an adjunct position instead of a full-time one, does that mean they like you but want you to try teaching first to see if you are suitable for a career in academia? While this is to the school's advantage in terms of costs, isn't it unfair to the individual concerned in terms of a salary cut as it's not a full-time position?

If you perform well and if there is an opening then chances are you will be favored. It can take min 2 sem, sometimes even 3 as that gives the management a good time period to judge your performance. You don't have to be the best but show a positive and learning attitude.

Getting an adjunct position can mean anything -
A) you bring good industry knowledge but lack teaching
B) there are no full time positions available at the moment and only adjunct faculty is required to share the teaching burden

As poly lecturer, your job scope will not be limited to teaching alone. You will be required to do a lot of admin stuff as well.
