I am thinking of putting same amount as my current pay at 8.3k, will that be competitive?

8.3k, can dream on.
Most of us earning 8 -10k previously took a pay cut to 6.xk If they were to offer you at 8.3k, that would put you at PAX3, a course manager grade. Pls note that in poly, the management level is quite lean. A manager in poly is the equivalent of DD in ministry, in terms of payscale and responsibilities.

Thanks for the input.
so is a senior academic staff considered PAX3? Is it higher or lower than course manager?
sorry for stupid questions, really not familiar with the rank level in poly.

There is a Senior Lecturer grade at PAX4A. For my poly, don't think anybody is employed directly as a Course Manager (CM). CMs are head of a particular diploma programme and normally work their way up.

I agree. They will not pa you 8.3k. If you are lucky, you may be paid above 6.2k to enter at Senior Lecturer Grade.

hi all, I followed the above advise on PAX 4A and quoted RP the middle at 7k for the Senior Academic position, but the HR lady ask me why I ask so high.
i smoke her by saying my friend work in RP and told me PAX 4A is around 7k, she laughed and said this is not a PAX 4 position and say 5.3k is the max they are prepared to offer.
anyone know if hr telling the truth or just trying to negotiate pay downwards?

You should stop dreaming about a high pay in a poly dude, since you are so concern about pay why not just stay in pte sector.
You are so totally lost and clueless I cannot believe you actually think Senior Academic is a PAX4 job!?!?
A Senior Academic in RP is equal to a Senior Executive in the pte sector or senior manager (super inflated) in the stat boards, you actually tell HR you want 7K... No wonder they also laugh at you.

I think that is the norm. Normally experienced staff are hired around that pay range. You would need to decide if the trade offs are worth it.
