$700 sounds like a big pay cut to me. I'm not sure how the increments in a ministry will be able to to make up for a $700 drop in a few years' time. The fact that you are now earning more than your peers in a Ministry would suggest that your increments in the stat board are better or at least as good as those in a Ministry. From what I've observed, there are usually more admin service scholars in the policy sections of Ministries, compared to in stat boards (except for a few high-profile stat boards), so it may be more difficult to shine in a ministry. But of course, if you're really good, you can shine anywhere. I suppose to a certain extent, you may be trading pay for a more interesting role. Just some food for thought.

Well, my expected salary was actually $400 more than what they offered. It's a tough decision because I am keen on the job scope but the pay is considerably lower than expected. I've informally heard that the environment and team dynamics are good though...

If the new role offers more career progression, and adds onto your experience, then perhaps you could seriously consider it. Work environment, team dynamics and supervisor are also important factors to consider. $400 lesser could be easily compensated within 1 or 2 years with promotion.

What's your current role in the economic agency? How are the working hours like? What's your primary reason for wanting to leave? Is it because of the work or people?

Would you get better hours in the new role?

pay range for mx12 is very wide btw. it's maybe 2600 - 5800 (ceiling).

Just wondering - is it unadvisable to send out a few job applications to diff ministries/stat boards?

It is ok. This shows that you are interested in public service work. Also, this will also ensure that they make a decision fast.

Agree that it shows interest, but do make sure it's not all over the place (no focus on any area/specialisation) which may in turn make you look like you don't know what you want or you're just 'throwing net'. Having a direction helps...
