It depends on which agency...would say AM is around MX12 range, and M can be borderline MX12/MX11

What's the pay range of mx12? Saw online 2011 max for mx12 is $5.1k.. Any idea if it's still the same..

My sister was asked by hr abt her expected salary. Hr says they will only offer her if her expected falls into the range that they are going to offer her.
I told my sis to tell them that salary is open for discussion but they still want her to state a figure. Werid.. How ar?

You will still be on the poly scheme during the 4-year secondment right?
I am a typical B Grader so my increments are typically $300-500. But this year I hit ceiling so that kinda suck but its ok cos I still have bonus commensurating my grade. Yes still poly scheme during the 4 years.

Poly scheme is 300-500 for b grade? That's higher than my b grade for graduates..

will a stat board/ministry immediately rule a candidate out if his/her expected salary is higher than what they're offering? or is there room for negotiation i.e. them calling to ask whether the candidate is willing to accept a slightly lower pay?

I've encounter a case where the HR did call back and told me my expected is "very difficult to get approval...", then we negotiated back and forth and eventually they raised it to the middle point. But since my expected is really my baseline I eventually declined and they didn't pursue further.

In another case the HR told me before revealing the offer detail that it is non-negotiable, a take or leave situation.

Usually the agency will call the candidate to clarify their expected salary should it be higher than what they are offering, for negotiation. However, this is after they've conducted the interview and are clearly interested in the candidate. You must understand that the first cut are all done by officers (not those in senior positions), and they are usually told what to look out for (e.g. good grades, relevant experience, expected salary etc.).

So it's a risk that your application may be discarded if your expected salary happens to be more than what they are willing to pay. In that sense, you will not even get an interview. However, if you're so stellar, I think most will still call to clarify first.

Thanks for the insight! I've gone for the interview with the stat board and am still waiting to hear back. Hmm.. Will they inform candidates even if they're not selected?
