You're doing pretty ok. I'm 31 female getting 7.3k. But I've been working non-stop since graduation for 9 years already.

Were you on the specialist scheme or MX track upon your return to the statutory board?
Hi, I was in oil & gas. It is one of the economic agencies. Not on the specialist track, just the regular MX track.

Have you applied yet?

I applied to one of the ministry. I went for my second round of interview, two days after the first one. They told me they will inform me 1-2 weeks later. Subquently, 2 weeks later, I was told to fill up the G50 form. But they told me the outcome is not confirmed yet. It's nearly a month since I submit my G50 form and I'm kinda worry.

that's a lot. with 5 mths bonus you are getting $124k.

it is official. civil servants are overpaid and earn more than most MNCs. probably the only professions/sectors that earn more than you are sales, banking and professionals.

give us a break. most of our offices in the sururbs are a world away from the posh slanky outfits you get at MBFC and raffles. environment plays a big part in one's career too. the majority of my colleagues at work are almost double my age and have the very lepak attitude at work. again, a world away from the hustle and bustle training i experienced while at biz school in uni. I have to admit one of the key drivers making me come to work everyday is the stability and the generous yearly package. Beyond that, its just like any other day job. of course when i come across a better (public sector) position with a nicer environment and more balanced gender ratio i'll gladly pack my bags and jump ship.

not really, IE Singapore at Bugis, STB at Tanglin, A*Star at Fusionopolis, etc etc have pretty nice offices.

save for those working in banks, law firms, accounting firms, insurance, big shipping firms and other MNCs, most other people work really out in the suburbs where the stat board/ministry are not located. if you think that working in non-town offices is a reason for you to earn more, then a lot of people deserve a high salary too!

nowadays i only ever hear of fresh grads talking about what class of hons they have in order to get a cushy govt job... no wonder we get inundated with FTs in the other sectors..

Haha sadly those you mentioned are the more posh and glam ministries/stat boards where the OLs are usually at.

I'm from a 2nd tier, operations-centric stat board. The age of the organisation plays a part too because those people who joined the stat board in their youth are likely to still be working with the same place right now.. and... age-ing and antique-fying the entire place along with them.

Recently I applied to some other ministries and stat boards and saw the light. Now waiting to see if i've gone through to the 2nd round. wish me luck!
