Hi, local undergrad here going to graduate in a few months. Weighing my options now and a lot of people I talked to seemed to have a bad impression of working in the civil service. Are they just bitter that they didn't have good honours from a local uni to qualify, or is the civil service really that bad?

Be glad you have options in this economic climate.

It all depends if you value stability or risk taking.

For myself, I value stability and work-life balance in my job/career hence I chose civil service. I prefer taking risks outside of my job, through my investments, side hustles (shhh)

People who have a bad impression of cs would say that generally its pay ceiling is lower than private sector. This is true, but also take note of the percentage of people in private sector who make it that big. Also it is harder to jump from civil service to private than the other way.

Male, early 30s farmer MX. What should be the pay for my age? I'm paid under 5k.

From reading this forum and from hearing from my friends seems like my age group avg should be earning in the low 10k salary range. Is this assessment correct? And any suggestions on how to breakthrough?

Thank you for your insights. Based on what you know, approx. what percentage of people in the private sector do make it that ''bigger'' than those in the civil service? In general, would civil service pay be higher than the average private sector worker (local U)?

Not true but not fantastic though. I am assuming you are earning about 75 to 80k p.a. you are doing jus average for your age. comparing across both private and public sector.

dont be mislead by people.

actually yes. civil service would likely make you the 60 percentile if you are a average performer
