Have 12 years experience double degrees from overseas. Stuck at ceiling for 10 years, any masters or PhD grad joins immediately higher than me And 15 years younger. It's up to u of course the work is not as stressed as the outside industry. Just lecturing the same stuffs is easy. But be prepared to have stagnant salary and pay cut like me 25%.
Salary increment is zero for me even though I get C+ everytime too even though outside I am A grader.
Office politics and favoritism are everywhere. At the expense of mental health maybe it's worth it in the long run.
Salary has been 5k plus for years.
U can strive when young but am already close to 50 And only IPS6.

Why you didn’t get promoted to next level. Rare for someone to stuck at ceiling for so long

Just wanted to find out, I heard from a friend that if I were to apply as a lecturer with a bachelor degree, I will most likely be pegged at IPS7.
Likewise, if I were to apply as a masters degree holder (awarded by MOE recognised university), there is a high chance that I will be offered IPS8.
I have about 10 years of relevant work experience in the area of teaching that I will be applying into.
My friend told me, like how some of you highlighted, that it is pretty important to enter at IPS8 as the minimum duration stucked in that grade is about 8 to 10 years for most people.
Can anyone here help to validate this claim?
|
Not true. Bachelor degree with 10 years maybe you will enter at IPS 5 or IPS6. If you are a diploma holder lecturer probably enter at IPS4 and the course probably is in desperate need of lecturer.
I have a colleague with NTU Masters and with private sector experience entered at IPS 5 mid range. For those entering at IPS 7/8 usually are transfers from other government agencies who already hold a substantial rank there.
Progression wise really depends on how many projects or awards you do for your department or school. Teaching or generating a lot of good students do not contribute to your progression as its part of your daily jobscope.

I'm curious, some schools open up classrooms in the evenings for lessons for ITE students. Are those teachers from ITE itself? Or just some part time tutors?

There are some office politics and strong favouritism.
Don't want to say much else it's too obvious of identifying who am I.
Enter early as IPS 8 or 9.
It's all about selling urself not some high post.
Helicopter in or just leave it.

me also 6k plus in the 50s.
pay increase and promotion is almost non existence
however there is so much benefits in being a lecturer.
standing at lecture hall in front of so many young girls wearing short skirts nowadays and many not crossing legs with different kind of panties sighted almost daily with some never even wear panty is what makes it purposeful to go work daily even if low pay.
No other job can give such benefits almost daily!

Working as engineer in poly?
Anyone working as engineer in poly? Is the compensation package similar to those lecturers?

Anyone move from ITE lecturer to poly lecturer? I heard that it might be under movement policy so you have to keep your current grade (and salary) but when I interviewed with a poly, they didn't mention this and even claimed I can keep my years of service.
I want to make a move for honestly more money but if there's no difference then I don't really see the point of moving.
Thanks.

I am offered IPS7 which is a pay cut from my previous drawn. I received offers about 17% higher than offered by IPS. But due to certain circumstances I am choosing to be a lecturer for now....
I have >10years in engineering/full stack developer exp.
Will it be bad taste if I decided to leave before the 2 years contract end?
