Earning rental income of $1200 per month from renting 2 rooms of our HDB flat. Plus another $1800 per month of other sources of passive income and from kids. Enough for me and my wife, we are both 67, retired. I hope the rental market remains strong and rents will keep rising as this is important source of our retirement income. Hope there is no oversupply of properties in the future.

Hi,

35 y.o., earning 12k per month, doing marketing in a MNC.

Earning more than some of my friends, but not as much as some of my friends who are in business.

Happy with current pay, but not sure how to develop and stage my career between 36-40... so a bit lost.

It must be quite a sacrifice of your privacy to rent out rooms to strangers. But I guess we don't have much choice when we need the money.

Thanks to the compulsory CPF life annuity plan, my wife and I can look forward to a combined monthly payout of $3K when we reach 65 (11 yrs from now).

But we don't think it will be enough for us, especially when you factor in inflation. So we have invested steadily in stocks which have been giving us roughly $30K dividend income per year for the last 3 years. We reinvested the dividends.

We are looking to invest in property for rental income too. To retire, we estimated we will need $5K per month from age 55. I guess / hope our expenses will reduce as we get older.

Should I use $3.5k (p.a. amount divide by 12) or use the $3k (pm) as a benchmark to decide how much to seek for in jump?

Thanks, everyone!!

I would suggest u ask for 4k, they will sure nego with u.

With 7 yrs asking for 4k, u are consider "cheap" , your chances is quite high.

Talking

No worry, when there is no more grass in Singapore, can consider finding grass in Thai/Bali. $800K is more than enough for retirement there.

Anyway, the guy who is looking at retiring with $800K can do reality check using the CPF retirement calculator. It can give you a good gauge of how much a person needs to last his specified retirement years and I know $800K will not last long.

Fastest way to increase your salary is job-hopping.

I am 39 now , just to share with u my past working experience.

1995 ($1050) With ITC, after ORD work as TSO in poly for 7mths
1996 ($1500) Left poly , work in small company
1998 ($3000) Jump to another small company
2004 ($4300) With diploma ,Jump to another small company
2007 ($4200) Join poly as TSO grade 4( yearly increment less than $150)
2010 ($5200) Join a median size local company

Currently, drawing more than 7k as a manager, car is included.

From my experience, job-hopping is the fastest increment.

Private sector is definately faster than stat-board as a non-degree holder.
