Can I ask, I have been following this thread quite often, as it seems to be many posts regarding fm.
I also passed the med exam recently and now making a decision regarding ops vs private. I understand from this thread that our major pay rise comes from completing mmed (i.e now) and subsequent completion of fcfp or promotion to AC does not bring about significant pay rise.
Given that our current mmed fp annual pay is already lacking behind that of private gps by 10-20 %, how long do we need to catch up with them? (Coz most private gps also have pay revision every 1-2 years, just like ops, for things like inflation/performance etc)

1. Precovid GP salary below that of m.med FP in ops. Salary start to rise halfway into pandemic becuase all the clinic Huat from being pphc. Flush with money, the chains start to expand and hire aggressively so can pay more money
2. Now seeing a regression to mean liao. The 225k salary is rare. Mostly is 14 to 15k for similar hours.
3. Private no increment. Unless it's v big chains like raffles. If u are v profitable, they will just profit share with you. Profit share can fluctuate, increment cannot cut else pple leave.
I own clinics u think I want to reward u profit sharing or salary increment?
4. As an anchor in private , it's not a bed of roses. You have to hit revenue.
Patient don't like u and dun return after a while, u will be shown the door.
Ops , well, unless u rack up complaints or see so slowly that one one can help you, u always have a job

I think you are a stingy owner leh. All of the gp groups I spoke to offer 15-16k if you willing to work 2 nights. Most have bonus ranging from 1-3 months (some bigger chains guarantee aws, others smaller chains don't) So realistically it's a 13-14 month package. And all have annual increments based on performance. Ironically profit sharing is never mentioned or offered in the discussion.
But of course need to hit kpi la. Most annual packages higher than what ops offer me now, but of course I understand there is no career progression la

Ops also no career progression ma
Annual increment 3 percent on the basic salary which is v low to begin with
Gaurantee 1 rank increment only.
Private GP can later setup own clinic
Then 2 clinic
After that a chain
Sell off chain to healthgroup
Become CEO of healthgrp
Then become MP
Become minster
Maybe old liao president also got chance
Who say private GP no career progression

It's true that doing medicine to earn money makes no sense, but to take on more risk and be paid less sucks.

this is probably true. but a bit too late to change paths now.
i think med and esp fm doesnt pay that great.

I mean it's comfortable la. 200k/year, if you choose to live in hdb and lead a humble life (i.e take public transport, eat at hawker) it's more than enough. (Can probably save 40-50% of your salary yearly)
Question is did you work so hard in uni, ho/mo years just to lead a humble life?
