if you from exxon mobil, starting pay is abt $3500(year 2009), with increments(each abt 8%-9%) for every 6 mths of services for the 1st 2 years. so in 2 years got total increment,

my estimate = 3500 x 1.08 x 1.08 x 1.08 x 1.08 = $4761 (very close to $4800)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

if from SHELL

starting pay about $3300(not sure), their scheme is for the 1st 3 year, the annual increment in 20%.

you work for 2 years = 3300 x 1.2 x 1.2 = $4752 (very close to $4800)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Is my estimate correct??
which one? exxon or shell?
LOL. either way, you're already close to estimate. i don't think it's wise for anyone here to disclose the company they're working at.

You 've got to know that Exxonmobil has a complicated system that ranks their employee on yearly basis. Depending on the which percentile the person is graded into, years of service, and so on , it will determine the pay rise and promotion of every employee. Another thing is the bonus scheme, that makes a whole lot of difference in the pay scheme. Exxon has 3 months fixed bonus - no performance bonus.

Any idea know how is the increment like in Exxon?

I heard that for the first 2 years, you get an increment every half a year. The numbers I have heard so far is between $100 to $300 each time. What about the average increment after 2 years?

I've also heard Shell pays better because of the variable performance bonus that can be as high as up to 6 months in very good years which is on top of the fixed 3 months bonus. Is that true?

I would say luck plays a big part because I chance upon this commercial opportunity when there was a boom in the oil and gas industry. Spent a few years and then the boom in pharma got me to the pharma industry where the same commercial knowledge is applicable.

My pay has tripled in the last 7 years since I moved to the commercial side.
hi can you explain more on your scope as commercial side ? what's the commercial definition that you mean. I know it has something to do with sales/getting contracts..

The half year increment for 2 years programme has been removed.
