1. You are engineer in what industry?, Chemical? Aviation? Researcher?
2. Male(with NS) or female?
3. government or private sector?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
since you are class of 2010, i think you haven't been working for 1 full year yet?
I guess you are from government sector, starting pay = $3500 + a pro-rated increment $66 = $3566 now?

$400 increment per year is alot!!!!
As for me as a 2nd lower degree, after 3.5 years, my total increment (3 annual increment + 1 promotion) is about $490 only...-_-
Are you working in government sector or private sector?

I guess I should be considered as a verteran in engineering line after more than 10 years of working experience (graduated since '97).
Understand that a fresh grad typical basic salary now in a factory, as that is what an environment a typical engrg grad work in, should be commanding around 2.8k (correct me if I lost touch). At mine time, a fresh grad salary is around 2.3k to 2.6k.
After been working for 2 years with a basis of 2.75k (due to good performance), I jump ship to other company. I tried very hard to fight for a 3k salary which none the interviewers willing to offer. In the end, I have to bite the bullet and took the 2.9k offer.
In the 2nd company I work for, I stay on with them for 4 yrs. My salary only increased to barely 3.3k. That is inclusive of promotion. Every few years, there bound to have economics crisis where either we get paid cut or salary freeze.
I am suprised that nowaday, where so much novice engineers with just a few years of experience can grab 4k or even more. Those who get lesser than that will start wimping.
In order to reach 4k, it took me almost 7 years. Btw, the company I work for are all big MNC like A(the one that most ppls having its hp worldwide), Automotive big 3 etc and my performance is always either top 1 or 2 in my department. After about 5 times of job hop, my current salary is only 6k+ as a team lead.
Working in a factory, the increment is about 3 to 5% nowadays, not like in older days time, where HP is strong period, the increment can hit from 10 to 15%.

Fresh graduate drawing 3.3k is not underpaid! Don't expect your past dip experience must weight much when upgrading your cert in your existing employer. I have seen couple of ppls similar case like you taking part time deg upon completion as an assistant engineer level etc, they don't promote to engineer immediately. There is where they jump ship to other company to become engineer.

U mention u from oil and gas sector>>>got 2 choice, EXXON MOBIL or SHELL
u grad in 2009, mean up to today , almost 2 years exp
-------------------------------------------------------------------
if you from exxon mobil, starting pay is abt $3500(year 2009), with increments(each abt 8%-9%) for every 6 mths of services for the 1st 2 years. so in 2 years got total increment,
my estimate = 3500 x 1.08 x 1.08 x 1.08 x 1.08 = $4761 (very close to $4800)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
if from SHELL
starting pay about $3300(not sure), their scheme is for the 1st 3 year, the annual increment in 20%.
you work for 2 years = 3300 x 1.2 x 1.2 = $4752 (very close to $4800)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is my estimate correct??
which one? exxon or shell?
