i’m a law student and confused how bonuses (heard is usually a few months of salary?) and front loading thing works? what’s the diff btw legal executive and trainee? when ppl say there is 1k increment with adding of 1 PQE does it depend on work performance or it’s standard for firm to increase ur salary after a year?
anybody care to explain thanks

I hear from good sources that Arvin Lee is applying. Would be best fit.

Hi guys, year 3 here. I have a TC offer from Bird & bird TMT, WongP M&A and NRF - Fullbright M&A (have to confirm again).

1. Any advice on which firm to go with?

2. I heard from some seniors that a local firm is better for training, how true is this vis-a-vis intl firm? are local firms really that much different (better)?

3. Does anyone have the rates for Ascendant legal / ATMD?

Pretty sure nrf doesn't offer corp m&a TCs.

Their ptc is basically just disputes, since it's under Ascendant. They have previously only taken int'l arb and Banking rlt trainees as well. So pretty sure your offer from nrf is not legit.

Definitely not B&B if you got the other two offers - unless you know you 100% want to do TMT or IP. B&B's marketability is very very niche.

I would say WongP M&A is a strong choice, and would prefer that over NRF as NRF Arbitration is alot weaker now after the departure of Darius Chan and KC Lye.

Truth be told, I'd suggest guiding your choices by which kind of law you would like to practice rather than which firm to go.

WongP is good for m&a. Bird & Bird ATMD is known for TMT/IP. NRF is pretty good for int'l arbi.

But they're each different practices of law which require different competencies and personalities.
