I understand where you're coming from. Given my current status, I will say it's not difficult nor easy to raise a family. Beside, my wife is working as well. We are a team raising this family. So I'm confident we are doing alright.

Yep exactly. As long as financial management was done diligently and prioritize what are the needs, cut down on the 'wants'. Life will be good enough to go through.

I will agree, SME is awful, heard many similar experiences. One reason I targeted large tech companies over SMEs even when they offered better pay packages... no pay is worth the insane stress and chance that you will be overworked and abused.
Anyway take care of your family during these COVID times, especially the young ones. Stay safe my friend.

Hey, thanks for your kind words, you too. Take care of your family too during these covid times. Stay safe too, bro.
Exactly, no pay is worth the insane stress. But nonetheless, it's an eye-opener for me i guess.

Just curious about a few things though.
With a kid now, I'm guessing you'll be the only one working? Your wife would probably be a housewife?
Are you planning to go for a degree to boost your salary further?
|
Hey, thank you so much for your kind words.
With a kid now, I'm not the only one working. My wife is working as well, not a housewife.
Yes,planning to go for a degree but not now. It's in my pipeline to attain one. Rather, I'm aiming for professional course that I can value add to myself.

It's been awhile since I've updated here! Well...I got retrenched by the company. Just when I thought I can stay long and I got a ‘good’ news lol. The company did provide a retrenchment package for me. Not much but good enough. Good news is that I managed to secure a new job as soon as I was serving the notice period! So take it as the company gave me a bonus, haha.
Currently, I joined a new company as a service engineer. Slightly higher pay and some allowance which lucky to get. Though it’s a totally new area for me, I’m gonna keep an open mind and take on this new role. Wish me luck!
Some other updates, is that I managed to get a CAPM cert for myself last year! Nothing to do, so go for a cert, lol Currently, I’m learning myself on data analytics to equip myself on skills for data analytics. I’m still far far far away from calling myself a data analyst, lol. But I’m learning at my own pace. Hopefully, few years down the road, I can join this data analytic area.
I know some of you might say learning DA not good, no future,AI taking over, etc etc. I get it. I just wanna give myself a chance to upgrade myself to learn something new. Hope y’all understand.
My son is going to be 1.5year soon! Going to playground soon! Teacher mention he’s ready for playground! Felt so proud of him. So far, enjoying parentinghood with my wife. Though it is very very tiring, there isn’t not a single day that I don’t miss my son haha. He’s just so cute! As for wife, she recently changed job as well, changed to a semi-govt company. Job’s been treating her good as well. So that’s all for a update! I see you when I see you!

Hi everyone! It's 2 years since updated! Happy early CNY to you! Wanna give some updates! Almost forgot about it,haha!
Currently, I'm still in the same company as a service engineer. I have to say, this job is treating me good. Currently, i'm in my 2nd year with this company. And I got to fly to Japan, Germany, KL for training. During my first year, i had a pay increment! So hooray! Hopefully this year will be the same so..
-finger crossed-
I've already decided not to go into the DA direction since it's doesn't really benefit me. Rather, I'll stay here to gather more experience as a service engineer. And probably move on from there. At least i have some clear direction now for my career path.
Managed to have our own car, due to my nature of work requiring me to travel around Singapore. Not much but it's a 2nd hand old car that gets the job done, so nothing to complain.
My son's already 3yo! Very happy and blessed to see him growing up so happily and healthy. He's in N2 now. Doing very well in school. We recently send him for enrichment class, in order for him to have easier learning capability and hopefully he can learn new things slightly faster. That's all we ask for. We didn't give him pressure at all. And he seems to like go to class. Only thing is, he has to do homework at home now, haha! But it's funny teaching him for me and my wife. So that's all.
My wife is doing very great too at her company. Managed to lead quite a few big project successfully! Her boss also recognized her work. Big increment and promotion for her! Proud of her! She's also started to do a side line as well. Pretty good i must say. This is something i'm very proud of too!
So far, life has been treating me good. I'm doing alright at work, i have a very happy and active boy, my wife is doing a wonderful job balancing who life and work. I have nothing to nit-pick about. No debt, able to pay the bills, able to have some small staycation, good relationship with my wife. My child is healthy and well. I'm so blessed to have these around me.
Oh ya, i had a kidney stone last dec. Thank god for the insurance that covers my bill. Now, i'm recovered and doing well. Decided to change my diet. Managed to lose some weight!
So now, I'm hoping to maintain what we are doing, and i believe we are doing fine. Of course, we are trying for 2nd kid this year! Hopefully, we can strike! haha. So i see you when i see you. Cheers to all working hard for your family or those working hard for yourself!
May you have a smooth journey this year!

This post is a constant reminder for all of us that our state of mind needs to maintain a balance between the pursuit of money (in our careers), and the pursuit of happiness and health (in our relationships and personal fulfilment).
We actually don't need a professional motivational speaker or counsellor to tell us all of these. Our fellow brother here is already a living example of that.
Keep it up sir! Hope life keeps getting better for you
