Depends on your interest. Graduate or non-graduate schemes are being merged into one. This means you will climb the same ladder - the only difference is the starting point.

Am I suitable to work in the civil service/stat boards based on the following?

- One of my main priorities is work-life balance. I don't want to do regular OT/irregular hours/must keep replying email on off days and after work kind of job...work means work and after work i switch off.

- I'm not 'driven' or 'ambitious'....I won't taichi my work around or drag people down with me but I'm quite content to have a simple/stable kind of career. I can have my fun/fulfilment outside work. At work I would prefer to just do the bare minimum to get by.

- I'm quite introverted. I keep to myself and am not comfortable in bigger groups of people. My socialising skills aren't that great, and I can't suck up to people. i'm not a social outcast or a hated/bullied person but i can't do networking.

Not in Ministry. You would just be deem as probably a D performer with minimum work done.

It depends on whether you have the passion to serve the public (and the greater good of the society). It does not matter whether you are in Ministry or SB, but the task you are assigned and working on.

The various aspects you mentioned can be managed or build up over time, as long as you are teachable.

So just doing what is required of you is below average performance? Because when I look at some people I know who are doing fine in public sector jobs, I doubt they are really super hardworking or 'adding value' but rather just doing their jobs competently. I'm not saying I will shirk my work or try to slack but just that I won't have a 'go out of my way or devote my life to my job' kind of mindset.

I'm 27 (male). I have been working in a low pay/bad hours industry since graduating and I am sick of it and feel like there's more to life than working. Plus personally I'm not ambitious about climbing career ladder or driving sports cars or other material luxuries so I just want to earn enough to lead a middle class kind of life (which I understand is also difficult nowadays). People will condemn me as 'lazy' or 'strawberry' maybe but I don't really feel like I have to cave in to peer pressure.

I would much rather serve the public and make some kind of difference/feel like my work matters, even just a bit, rather than work in the private sector just to line the pockets of some organisation. Right now I sometimes enjoy the actual work I do but at the end of the day I don't think I make more of a difference to anyone other than my company's pockets. Even a mcdonald's server makes a more impactful imprint on the world than me sometimes so it's quite sian.

BUT as I mentioned at the end of the day I'm still a selfish person la, I want time for myself and my own interests outside of work which my current job/boss is really threatening.

Working in any org including ministry needs some basic relational skills and ability to manage expectation. If your intention is just to wait for instruction, then do whatever is ordered, keep to yourself and don't mix around, I think C- or D is likely.

This kind of pattern maybe acceptable for Div 3 or Div 2 staff, but if you are Div 1 (deg educated) then is really cmi.

D is just barely meeting the requirements of the job. You need to put in more effort if you are looking at C- and above.

would like to ask about public servant bonuses, if anyone can help:

from my understanding, there are 5 types of bonuses - Annual Variable Component (AVC) Non-Pensionable Annual Component (13th Month), Special Variable Payment (SVP), Performance Bonus (PB) and Market Adjustment Component (MAC)

1) AVC - what is the average AVC public servants get? (after adding up mid-year and End-Of-Year AVC)

2) 13th Month - So far every year got this bonus? is this bonus considered a "sure-get" bonus?

3) SVP - I heard that this bonus is given out depending on how well the Singapore Economy is doing (and adjusted to your performance). Is this SVP given out every year? If not, how often were SVPs given out? biannually?

4) PB - What are the performance grades and what are the average bonuses pegged to each respective grade? Say, for a division I public servant.

5) MAC - Same question as AVP, how often were MAC given out? and how much on average for MAC if it is given out?

i am trying to estimate my annual package, would appreciate if an experienced public servant could help

TIA
