yup most govt ones may be contract, in fact I guess only uniformed grps are not. However, its easy to spot which positions in govt are actually contracts that will be auto renewed unless you really cmi in performance and do wan to leave instead.

Hi guys, been lurking here for quite a while and I don't know whether I should be happy or sad that there are people in the same situation as me. Here's a bit of my profile.

1.Fresh Graduate in SIM-UOL - BSc Banking and Finance
2.Jobless for 2.5 months
3.'Working' Exp - collectively 6 months in supply chain management, 3 months in data
entry (All temps during school holidays)

What I have been doing during my first 2.5 months jobless:
1st month - helping my dad doing admin stuff in his small business
next 1.5 month - fully just concentrate on sending out resume: So far I have 2 interviews - 1 failed, 1 still waiting on whether able to proceed to 2nd round. Also a few phone call from recruit agents without follow ups. Had a phone interview with a commodity trade co but hiring manager was not willing to shortlist me because Im not 'officially' graduated yet (results out this thurs).

So after these 2.5 months of being 'jobless', I kinda getting a bit depressed, especially when relative keep asking me how come still 'unemployed'. Therefore, Im currently looking for a part time job while searching for a full time to keep myself 'occupied' and to answer possible questions faced during interview such as 'What have you been doing all these time while being jobless'?

My target hit rate for interview calls is pretty low - 2 interviews in 2.5 months, and I have sent about 80-90 resumes now. Probably due to the following:

-My degree is not recognized, and I don't have working experience in the field of my study
-Overqualified for diploma level jobs

My expected salary is not high (between 2-2.5k) and my resume is tailored and vetted by many people (including my auntie who is a hiring manager) so I don't think there's a problem with my resume.

And so finally Im posting here to seek anybody's advice who has gone through the situation or currently am in the same situation as me (especially uol grads). Sorry for the long post.

Your prob is u took up a useless degree. Banking and finance pte degree not useful as the associate jobs in banks u will not get it and end up competing with diploma for officer or entry sales job.

Just keep pumping applications. If after 6 mths still no job can consider removing the degree from CV and apply for diploma jobs. Is ur diploma technical or non technical subject?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I don't think that it is 'useless', just that it is not as recognized as the local degree. I have friends who are Uol grad with me, and they have managed to secure themselves in foreign banks (they have relevant temp work exp). Therefore, I think it is more than just this 'useless' degree you referring to that I am unable to secure a job - Yes, Im lacking in relevant work exp (most bank nowadays want min 1 year than entry level).

In regards to your second question, I have a diploma in Biotechnology. But I want to ask you that if I removed my 'degree' in my resume, how do I explain the 3 years time gap that is going to be missing?
