This is defeatist thinking. If only you know that many successful people actually started off doing very menial and low level jobs. Stories of such people are plentiful all over the world. I am sure you have heard of the PhD researcher who lost his job and took to taxi driving to support his family? You can still find his story in the web.
My very first job was as a production worker in a factory earning hourly rates. As long as it is honest work, and pays for your daily expenses, it is still better than sitting at home and feeling despair and useless.
There are jobs out there.

There is still hope if you are at least 30 years old. Some people say you can earn $5k pm as a taxi driver. Don't waste time surfing the net and watching filth.
I want to drive a taxi. What are the requirements?
•You must be at least 30 years old;
•You must be a Singapore Citizen holding a pink NRIC;
•You must have a valid Class 3/3A Singapore driving licence for a continuous period of at least one year at the point of application; and
•You must be able to speak and read basic English.

My dad works as a taxi driver. He is the hirer so he works the night shift. Normal months about 2.5k-3k. But if he chiongs, he can earn 5k pm. He has done so before, in order to pay off my sister's uni fees. Of course, he declares his income as only 1.5k/mth so he wont be taxed heavily. Its really a matter of how much effort you want to put. If you take it slow and sit at coffeeshop then of course you wont take in much. But if you really chiong, you can earn quite a decent amount. Save the money, put your kids through university, then take it slow once your kids start working. My dad was an ex-convict, so not much opportunities out there for him, that's why he chose driving. Now he is slowing down since me and my sister just started working and his HDB is fully paid for. He doesnt have much savings, but at least he fully owns his home, which is the most important thing IMO. My mum works as a sales admin in a small MNC. Wage just increased to about 3k. Before that was only about 2.4k/mth. Combined income about 5.5k. No car. 4-room flat. Not bad. And they still quite young. Both of them 48. This year they went overseas holiday about 5 times already. Short trips. 1 week in HK. The other trips were to Batam and Phuket and also upcoming trip to Melbourne to visit relatives at the end of the year. So its not too bad.
Dont look at things at a negative light. Its not always that bad. Put in the effort and one day you will reap the rewards. Children are a good investment as long as you educate them, teach them the right things and ensure they study hard.

i found a job after 9 months of unemployment, slacking at home, shopping branded stores until broke, running every night, gyming every 2 days, eating junk food, mac, kfc, long john silver, wendys, meeting friends i haven't met in years. i had no direction.
so after 9 months of that, i finally found a job. but the cake is that this job is a temp role paying between 2 to 3 k. it is an admin role in disguise. good thing is location is good, office is nice, work place is pleasant, people there dress well to impress, but only bad thing is i am doing work that nobody really cares and it does not add value in my resume if i write photocopying stuff for projects, and ad hoc duties.
i am still at a loss now,
