Default Seeking advice.

Hi, not sure whether this is the right thread for this enquiry, but just need some guidance, i am 38/male,12 years of experience in Lease & Property Management, research analyst on construction Industry, marketing and business development and operations in both B2B & B2C industries. All this experience are from private sector, i am keen to explore opportunities in the Gov sector. My highest qualification is bachelor degree from UOB (Private). How hard or challenging to get a job within the gov sector considering my age.
i have plans to pursue masters if i land a job in the gov sec. For the past 2 years i was managing my own start up online digital portal cater for build industry, due to lack of fund and high rise cost, i need to take a step back and seek a full time job else where. Currently working in a private company dealing with business space and marketing for their new co-working office project.

-Virtual interview with only 1 round as HR and hiring manager were all there in the interview, I asked HR how long before I can hear an answer, she said up to 2 weeks but I could check in with her again after 1 week
-HR emails a few days later to say they are doing reference checks
-My references are quite fast, submitted after a few days, a day after they submitted, HR calls up with verbal offer
-HR informs drawing up the contract will take around 2 weeks
-Signed contract after 2 weeks

my process was quite fast relative to others' experiences I've read here, not sure if it's bc its contract.
The first time HR called you, was the application period over? Or still accepting applications? Thanks

Hi guys, seeking opinion and expertise. I’m in a tech mnc right now for just 3 months but it’s not working out for me. Given this 3 months stint, is it okay to use this pay to apply for government? Thinking of putting a 25% pay cut.

Try URA (Land Sales) / BCA / HDB / SLA

Yeah just put your tech mnc pay as your last/current drawn salary. HR usually has their own calculations so doesnt matter, they will ask for your payslip anyway.

LOL honestly if i were her and you turned down my offer to join full time i'd only have good things to say since you proved your worth as an intern to be converted. But anyway, yeah, just dont list her as your reference. List other employers / university lecturers that you're close with. Even your FYP professor would be good (i always use my university profs as refs because they are the most neutral and they know my work ethics/character best).

Pro tip for other penultimate grads: build your references while you can!

From another thread in 2018:

MFA is one of the ministries with the heaviest workload. At peak periods, you can work till midnight for several days or weeks (source: friend who is a Foreign Service Officer).

That said, you have to undergo their gruelling 3-stage interview process.
1st stage - half a day with a large group of ~20 ppl
2nd stage - full day at am assessment centre evaluating aspects such as logical/analytical thinking, how quick you are to think on the spot, presentation skills, writing skills etc.
3rd stage - panel interview with senior management
(source: I went thru the 1st 2 stages)

Not too certain about current starting pay but I think at least 5-6k for FSO

Hey, thanks a lot for your advice. Just wondering if anybody would even bother shortlisting with someone who has a 3 months stint. I have been low balled by them before in the past where they offered me lower than my last drawn in private sector of $3,500.

Hello! I graduated last year and got a job offer at a ministry and is currently working in the ministry. For me, I listed that I have intern experience, but at the fields to input my references, I only included my Uni profs. So, when HR was doing reference checks, they called me up to get me to provide info abt my intern supervisor, so that they can contact her for reference. Not sure if they did contact my 2 uni profs, but I'm 100% sure that they contacted my intern supervisor as we talked about it after I landed a job offer haha
