This advice is legit. No idea why TS and others were bashing this guy.

If you're reaching 30 as a SIM tech graduate with no real relevant work experience to tech roles, your next best move is to:

1: Get internships or build side projects so that you have SOME relevant experience.
2: Exclude any details prior to your university start date. So if you went Poly in 2010 and started SIM university course at 2019, obviously don't include the Poly details in your resume because you won't be able to explain your 9 year gap during interviews.

But of course, TS doesn't want to do an internship because it will pull down his grades.

TS don't want to exclude details from his resume either because he thinks that HR can somehow find out that he's a 30 year old loser and not some typical average 23-26 year old fresh grad.

Maybe read the first few pages and recognize TS's stubbornness to genuine advices. Quite obvious as to why people troll TS after page 2 onward.
The advice was not that good tbh. Most companies will use auto-filtering programs, the moment they scan through a resume and see "SIM", they'll mark the resume as "SIM TRASH" and throw it into the recycle bin.

I mean just look at their GES survey... what the fk is that pay and employment rate lol.. even ITE have better rates.

I work in an MNC HR recruitment team and I can confirm that SIM on your resume sends you straight to the bin. My company would rather hire a poly graduate than someone from SIM. We do offer poly grads higher compensation than SIM grads.

Looking at these anti-SIM comments makes me realise how lucky I was to have parents that decided to bail me out from entering SIM to study at an overseas uni.

Sure, some locals look down on overseas uni grads too, but at least with that degree, I have been able to land jobs in both the public and private sector without issue.

The world is such a harsh and biased place. Sometimes it's just down to how lucky you are rather than how good you actually are.

That said, I know at least 3 friends who went to SIM/SIM UOL who are earning a lot more than myself, with high positions in their companies. Ironically, one of them said he wouldn't hire a SIM grad himself. Even though it seems like most of them don't do well in the working world, it would still be wrong to assume that 100% of SIM grads are useless.

SUSS > SIM-UOL > SIM-other uni

"Sure, some locals look down on overseas uni grads too" - lol no. anyone with half a brain knows that overseas unis are expensive af and are regarded highly in those overseas countries. its like saying if some foreigner went to NTU / NUS and goes back home , people back home will look down on NTU / NUS. does that make any sense to you?

"That said, I know at least 3 friends who went to SIM/SIM UOL who are earning a lot more than myself, with high positions in their companies." - pointless anecdotal evidence. if we go out of context and talk about the top 1%ers, why even bother counter-arguing in the first place.

the context here is that TS is a soon to be SIM graduate with no internship and no relevant experiences. doesnt matter if ur friend did this or that, we're not talking about ur friend here...

Well we don't know who TS is and I guess most people here don't really care about him also lol.

Hard to find someone genuinely interested and concerned about TS well being.
