Different case already bro. Trust fund kids won't be on a SALARY forum in the first place, they don't even need one

what prospects are there for product specialists in AMs in Singapore though? Is it rather stagnant and limited once near the top? hmmm..

Not sure what you meant by limited near the top.
A good product specialist saves the team a lot of trouble. Ultimately depends on what you want and what you can get. Investment, product specialist, sales have their own sphere of influence within the firm.

I meant sort of like career progression just stagnates once you reach the top and product specialists can never enjoy the same upside/carry like the investments colleagues.

That depends on the team you are in. Some companies consider product specialist as part of the investment team. The bonus can be pretty good too

I think it will be good to not use your own worldview to view a role as more stagnant than others. If you say something like that, I am quite sure you will fail your interviews. Please just think of what you can do well and like to do instead is more important. Some product specialist in some firms can be very influential.
On stagnant. Investment role is the most "stagnant role", although I am quite happy with it. I am doing similar work since day 1 after series of change of title/firm/pay.
Investment peeps also tend not to waste their time in on more managerial stuff/projects/initiatives/others. But if you want to move to certain positions (head of smth, country head, etc), those are the things that you need to do.
